About Carnival in Farini

Every year, on an afternoon in February, Piazza Marconi in Farini transforms into an open-air stage for Carnival. Colorful masks, confetti, and floats animate the center of this town in Alta Val Nure, in the Piacenza Apennines. It is a simple and genuine event, designed primarily for children and families, which brings the community together in an atmosphere of joy and popular tradition.

The Carnival of Farini

The Carnival in Farini is the masked festival that enlivens the small municipality of Farini every winter, in the province of Piacenza, in the heart of Alta Val Nure. On the afternoon of Carnival Sunday, the central Piazza Marconi transforms into an open-air stage where masks of all kinds parade and floats made by local associations can be admired. It is an opportunity to spend an afternoon in company and joy, in the name of the most authentic Carnival tradition of the Apennines.

An event for the whole community

Unlike the great historic Carnivals of Italy, Farini's Carnival retains a small and familiar dimension, typical of mountain villages. The festival is designed primarily for the little ones, who parade in costume amidst confetti and streamers, but it involves the entire community: families, grandparents, and volunteer associations gather in the square to share a day of lightheartedness. The event is part of the broader calendar of Carnival celebrations in Val Nure, which animate numerous towns in the valley each year, from Ponte dell'Olio to Ferriere.

Farini, a village in the Piacenza Apennines

Farini is located on both banks of the Nure River, in the Ligurian-Emilian Apennines, along the ancient Via degli Abati, a pilgrimage route linked to the monks of San Colombano di Bobbio. The municipal territory, extensive and rich in villages, churches, castles, and towers of medieval origin, is also known for its De.Co. gastronomic specialties, such as Mareto potatoes, potato cake, and Mariola salami, a Slow Food presidium. The Carnival represents one of the festive moments that mark the year in this corner of Emilia-Romagna, along with the Bardigiano Horse Fair and the summer festivals.

Atmosphere and tradition

Amidst music, dancing, masks, and typical Carnival sweets, the Farini festival offers an afternoon of colors and fun. Those who visit Val Nure during this period can combine the festival with the discovery of an authentic Apennine territory, made up of natural landscapes, ancient villages, and a mountain cuisine rich in flavors. A small village Carnival that preserves intact the convivial and popular spirit of the Emilian tradition.

Carnival in Farini — edition 2026

In February 2026, Carnival returned to liven up Farini, along with other towns in the Piacenza Val Nure. Piazza Marconi hosted the traditional masked festival, with a parade of colorful costumes and an exhibition of floats, for an afternoon of joy dedicated mainly to the children and families of the Alta Val Nure area.

The 2026 edition of the Carnival in Farini took place during the Carnival period in February, confirming the tradition of the masked festival in the municipality of Alta Val Nure. As in previous years, Piazza Marconi transformed into an open-air stage for the parade of masks and the exhibition of floats, in a climate of shared joy. The event was part of the calendar of Carnivals in the Piacenza Val Nure, which also animated Ponte dell'Olio and other centers in the valley on the same weekend. The detailed program was not widely disseminated beyond local channels.
