Allegorical floats and colorful masks through the village alleys

Every winter, the Carnival Float Parade transforms the historic center of Loreto Aprutino—one of the most charming villages in the province of Pescara and a recipient of the Italian Touring Club's Orange Flag—into a long procession of joy. Papier-mâché floats, costumed groups, confetti, and streamers wind through the village streets until they reach Piazza Garibaldi, the town's main square overlooking the hills of Abruzzo's olive oil country.
The event is managed by the Associazione San Zopito, the same organization that enlivens the community life of Loreto Aprutino throughout the year. The Carnival is conceived as a village festival open to everyone: children parade in costume alongside the floats, while families and curious onlookers gather along the route to applaud the most elaborate constructions and the most imaginative masks.
The parade crosses some of the most characteristic streets of Loreto Aprutino, starting in the afternoon, usually from 3:00 PM. The procession winds along Via degli Uliveti, Via Sandro Pertini, Via Paterno, the Santa Maria in Piano area, Via Cappuccini, and Viale Vittorio Veneto, before converging in Piazza Garibaldi, where the celebration continues with music and entertainment.
The Carnival is also an opportunity to discover Loreto Aprutino, a medieval village in Abruzzo known for its high-quality extra virgin olive oil, the Sanctuary of the Madonna, and its views over the countryside. The carnival festival, with its popular roots, is part of the town's rich calendar of traditions that culminates in the spring with the famous Feast of San Zopito.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Carnival Float Parade in Loreto Aprutino have not yet been announced. The event, managed by the Associazione San Zopito, is traditionally held during the Carnival period, with papier-mâché floats and costumed groups parading through the village streets to Piazza Garibaldi. To find out the official dates and route, we recommend checking the channels of the Loreto Aprutino Tourism Office and the Associazione San Zopito.
