About Grugliasco Carnival

The Carnival Float Parade is the most anticipated and spectacular highlight of the Grugliasco Carnival, located in the Metropolitan City of Turin. Ten floats from the provinces of Turin and Cuneo fill the town center, accompanied by over 1,500 participants in a colorful procession led by the traditional masks Monsù Ravanìn and Bela Parpoijna. A local festival that brings the carnival celebrations to a joyful close with music, confetti, and fun for the whole family.

The festive heart of the Grugliasco Carnival

The Carnival Float Parade is the flagship event that brings the carnival celebrations in Grugliasco—a bustling town on the western outskirts of Turin, in the heart of the Piedmontese metropolitan area—to a spectacular close. Every year, the town center transforms into an open-air stage where vibrant allegorical floats, masked groups, and marching bands parade, offering adults and children a Sunday of pure joy.

Ten floats and over 1,500 participants

The procession brings together ten allegorical floats from various municipalities in the provinces of Turin and Cuneo, featuring a total of over 1,500 masked participants. These impressive papier-mâché creations, the result of patient work by local carnival groups, move through the city streets amidst music, confetti, and streamers, cheered on by the enthusiastic crowds lining the sidewalks.

Monsù Ravanìn and Bela Parpoijna, the city's masks

As per tradition, the parade is led by the two historic Grugliasco masks: Monsù Ravanìn and Bela Parpoijna, accompanied by the Grugliasco Musical Corps. These characters, created in the late 1970s when the Grugliasco Carnival was revived by the alumni association of the "La Salle" school, embody the spirit and identity of the community. At the end of the afternoon, the two masks perform the symbolic return of the city keys to the Mayor, an act that officially marks the end of the carnival festivities.

A celebration for the whole community

The event is organized by Società Le Serre on behalf of the Municipal Administration, in collaboration with the Pro Loco Grugliasco. Admission is free, and the event is designed to engage families, children, and fans of folk traditions. To ensure the safety of the procession, the streets involved are closed to traffic for the duration of the event.

  • Parade of papier-mâché allegorical floats
  • Masked groups and marching bands

The Grugliasco Carnival is one of the most cherished traditions in the Turin area, capable of attracting participants and groups from all over Piedmont and renewing the bond between the city and its folk roots every year.
