The Calliano Monferrato Carnival in Piazza Marconi
The Carnival Festival is one of the most anticipated winter events in Calliano Monferrato, a small town in the Province of Asti nestled in the rolling hills of the Monferrato, in Piedmont. For a full day, the central Piazza Marconi is decked out for the occasion, turning into a large entertainment space where the community gathers to celebrate the carnival tradition together.
The festival is specifically designed for families and children. The square hosts free bouncy castles and continuous entertainment provided by volunteers, keeping guests of all ages engaged throughout the day. In the early afternoon, one of the most beloved Carnival rituals takes place: the pentolaccia game, a highly popular activity that brings children and parents together in a circle.
The delicious highlight of the day is the distribution of bugie, the crispy, sweet fritters that have always accompanied the Carnival season in Piedmont. Alongside the food stalls, local artisans and hobbyists showcase typical Monferrato products. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the hospitality of a village that makes conviviality and its own traditions—such as the famous Cansun d'Callian—a core part of its identity.
The Carnival Festival is the result of a collaborative effort between the Pro Loco of Calliano, the Municipality of Calliano Monferrato, local associations, and Red Cross volunteers. A free, family-oriented event that showcases the vitality of a small community in the Asti Monferrato, capable of bringing its main square to life in the heart of winter.
