A children's carnival in the heart of Casalbordino
Carnevale in Allegria is the annual carnival celebration that brings the center of Casalbordino to life every February. Located in the province of Chieti, overlooking the Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo, the town hosts the event in Piazza Umberto I, its beating heart. For one whole morning, the square and the surrounding streets are transformed into a cheerful open-air stage dedicated primarily to children and their families.
From the early hours of the morning, the square fills with confetti, streamers, and masks. The program includes children's entertainment, baby dance, face painting, and mascots to welcome the little ones, along with creative workshops and musical performances that set the tone for the festivities. One of the main attractions is the colorful 'joy train', which travels through the town streets with music, confetti cannons, and dancing, involving both young and old in a roving celebration that brings the party atmosphere to every corner of the center.
The most anticipated moment is the traditional costume parade, which brings together children, families, and costumed groups in a festive procession through the square. The morning concludes with an awards ceremony, recognizing the creativity and originality of the best costumes. Live music, DJ sets, and performances by local dance schools enrich the program, offering the community a day filled with shared joy.
Carnevale in Allegria is organized by the Municipality of Casalbordino, through the Department of Social Policies, in collaboration with the Unione dei Miracoli and local partners. The event's success is also guaranteed by the support of Civil Protection volunteers and the Local Police. More than just a parade, the event represents a moment of gathering that strengthens the sense of belonging to the Casalbordino community and celebrates the popular traditions of Abruzzo in an accessible, free environment open to everyone.
