Three days of authentic Roman cuisine at Parco della Resistenza
The Carbonara Festival is the event that transports the flavors of the Capital to the heart of the metropolitan area of Bologna. For an entire weekend, the Parco della Resistenza in San Lazzaro di Savena, on Via Bellaria, transforms into an open-air Roman square, where the undisputed queen is, of course, carbonara, prepared according to the original recipe with guanciale, eggs, pecorino, and pepper.
Alongside carbonara, the menu offers the entire repertoire of the most beloved Roman cuisine. It ranges from cacio e pepe to amatriciana, including classic Roman market appetizers: supplì in its variations (carbonara, cacio e pepe, amatriciana), Jewish-style artichokes, zucchini flowers, and meatballs in sauce. Traditional main courses like cod, coda alla vaccinara (oxtail stew), abbacchio scottadito (grilled lamb chops), and the famous porchetta from Ariccia are also featured.
For street food lovers, there's Roman pinsa in numerous flavors and puccia, while for a sweet ending, there are maritozzi with cream, a symbol of Roman breakfast. To accompany it all, there's cold draft beer and wines from the Castelli Romani region.
The Carbonara Festival is not just about gastronomy. The evenings are enlivened by live Italian music and the unmissable Roman stornelli (folk songs), recreating the cheerful atmosphere of the Capital's osterias, along with DJ sets. Admission is completely free, making the event a perfect occasion for families, groups of friends, and the curious from all over the Province of Bologna.
The event takes place in the Municipality of San Lazzaro di Savena, in Emilia-Romagna, easily accessible from the center of Bologna. Parco della Resistenza offers ample outdoor spaces, ideal for enjoying Roman dishes with company on the spring days of early May.
The Carbonara Festival 2026 enlivened Parco della Resistenza in San Lazzaro di Savena for three days, from May 1st to 3rd. On Friday and Saturday, the stands offered Roman flavors from 12:00 PM until midnight, while on Sunday, closing was at 11:00 PM.
The stars of the menu were carbonara, cacio e pepe, and amatriciana, along with supplì, Jewish-style artichokes, Roman pinsa, porchetta from Ariccia, and maritozzi with cream, accompanied by draft beer and wines from the Castelli region. The soundtrack alternated between Roman folk songs and live Italian music, with DJ sets on Friday evening.
Parco della Resistenza is located at Via Bellaria 5 in San Lazzaro di Savena (BO), a few kilometers from the center of Bologna. By car, it is easily reached from the Via Emilia (SS9) and from the San Lazzaro exit of the Bologna ring road. By bus, San Lazzaro is connected to the provincial capital by public transport lines.
The festival opens daily from 12:00 PM until late evening. Consult the official channels for updated hours for each edition.
Admission to the event is free. You only pay for what you consume at the food stands.
