The best of Roman cuisine in Piazza del Popolo
From March 13 to 15, 2026, Piazza del Popolo in Casalecchio di Reno, in the metropolitan city of Bologna, transforms into a corner of Rome with the Carbonara Festival, the traveling event dedicated to the best of Roman cuisine. It's the first time the format, produced by Feed n Food Eventi in collaboration with Warsteiner Italia, stops in this town in Emilia-Romagna overlooking the Reno river, on the outskirts of the provincial capital.
The absolute star is, of course, carbonara, one of the most loved and debated dishes in Italian tradition, here offered in its most authentic version alongside other Roman classics. Chefs present in the square will prepare cacio e pepe, amatriciana, and carciofo alla giudia live, as well as fried items and street food specialties.
To accompany the dishes, there will be fresh beer, cocktails, spritz, and wines from the Castelli Romani. All dishes are also available for takeaway, at no extra cost, while tables and benches allow you to sit and enjoy your meal in the square.
The Carbonara Festival is not just about gastronomy: the weekend's soundtrack blends entertainment and popular tradition. On Friday evening, it's time for a DJ set, while on Saturday evening and Sunday lunch, you'll hear Roman stornelli and live Italian music, recreating the convivial atmosphere of a true Roman neighborhood festival.
With completely free entry and no reservation required, the event is designed for families, groups of friends, and food enthusiasts. After visiting numerous Italian squares throughout 2025, the carbonara tour chooses Casalecchio di Reno to bring the flavors and aromas of Roman cuisine to Emilia-Romagna.
The 2026 edition brought the traveling format dedicated to Roman cuisine to Casalecchio di Reno for the first time, set up in Piazza del Popolo with tables, benches, and food stands. Carbonara, cacio e pepe, amatriciana, supplì, pinsa, porchetta d'Ariccia, and maritozzi enlivened the weekend, accompanied by beer, spritz, and wines from the Castelli Romani. Free entry without reservation, and dishes also available for takeaway.
On all days: carbonara, cacio e pepe, amatriciana, carciofo alla giudia, supplì, Roman pinsa, porchetta d'Ariccia, tripe, meatballs, and maritozzi, with vegan, vegetarian, and certified gluten-free options.
