Peasant traditions, flavors, and re-enactments in the heart of Vignola
Autumn in Vignola is the event that, every October, celebrates the peasant traditions and typical products of the area in the historic center of the Municipality of Vignola, in the province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna. Promoted by Pro Loco Vignola Terra di Ciliegie together with the Municipality and the Pro Loco of neighboring towns, the festival guides visitors on a journey that intertwines history, flavors, and popular culture amidst the warm colors of the autumn season.
The culinary heart of the festival unfolds through the streets of the center: along Viale Mazzini, local businesses display and offer their typical products, while in Via Soli and Via Cantelli, food and wine stands liven up the historic center with the flavors of Emilian tradition.
Bars and restaurants in the center also offer menus dedicated to the event, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the gastronomic atmosphere of the festival.
Alongside gastronomy, Autumn in Vignola dedicates ample space to historical re-enactments: in Piazza dei Contrari and the streets of the center, the splendor of the past is relived, when the noble families of the Contrari, Rangoni, and Montecuccoli vied for power over the village. Swords, shields, halberds, encampments, flags, and music from bygone eras animate the city in a evocative dive into the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
The event is often accompanied by special openings and guided tours of Vignola's iconic sites, such as the famous Rocca di Vignola and Palazzo Barozzi, to discover the historical and architectural heritage that frames the festival.
Among street artists, inns, aromas, and traditions, Autumn in Vignola is an opportunity to discover the most authentic soul of this village in the province of Modena, famous for its cherries but capable, in autumn, of telling its story through flavors and history. A free-entry festival that attracts visitors from all over Emilia-Romagna every year.
The 2026 edition of Autumn in Vignola will be held on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, 2026, in the historic center of the Municipality of Vignola, in Emilia-Romagna. As per tradition, the festival will feature food and wine stands with flavors of Modenese peasant cuisine, historical re-enactments in costume, and events dedicated to local culture. The hourly schedule and details of the initiatives will be announced by the organizers closer to the event.
