Labor Day music festival in Piazza Aldo Moro
The Capannori May 1st Concert is one of the most anticipated spring events in the Lucca Plain. Every year, for Labor Day, Piazza Aldo Moro in the heart of Capannori (Province of Lucca, Tuscany) fills with crowds for a massive free open-air concert that blends popular music, social awareness, and community spirit.
In recent years, the event has grown into a full-fledged multi-day festival: no longer just a single concert on May 1st, but a weekend of events running from April 30th to May 2nd, specifically designed to engage younger audiences with music contests, DJ sets, and dance parties.
The heart of the festival remains the afternoon concert on May 1st, which brings nationally renowned artists to the Capannori stage. Over the years, the event has featured famous names from the Italian pop, rap, and singer-songwriter scenes, using a formula that mixes established stars with rising urban music talents. The concert is always free and takes place in the late afternoon, making it accessible to families, young people, and music fans alike.
The festival places great emphasis on the local area and the younger generation. Recurring initiatives include the final of the Lele Panigada "Talenti in Scena" Prize, a contest dedicated to local young musicians, alongside booths from local associations and organizations that bring the day to life. The evenings of April 30th and May 2nd complete the program with DJ sets and dance events, turning Piazza Aldo Moro into a gathering point for the entire community.
Organized by the Municipality of Capannori, the May 1st Concert is now a classic of the Tuscan spring and an opportunity to experience Labor Day in a festive, shared environment. Capannori's location, just a few kilometers from Lucca and well-connected to the surrounding plain, makes the event easily accessible and highly popular with audiences from across the province.
The 2026 edition of the May 1st Concert in Capannori confirmed the long-weekend formula, with three days of events from April 30th to May 2nd in Piazza Aldo Moro. The highlight was the free May 1st concert, presented by the comedian and singer EnriCosaDici, well-known on social media.
Artists from the Italian pop and singer-songwriter scene took the stage, with the closing act entrusted to a nationally renowned band. The program combined the main concert with youth-oriented initiatives, music contests, and dance evenings, confirming the event as one of the highlights of spring on the Lucca Plain.
