The singing competition for students in Lavis
Every spring, the Municipality of Lavis, located in the province of Trento in the heart of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, celebrates an event that has become a true tradition: Cantascuola, the singing competition dedicated to local school students. Organized by the Lavis Comprehensive Institute, the contest offers middle school students the chance to step onto a real stage and perform in front of an audience, supported by the enthusiasm of their classmates, families, and fellow citizens.
Cantascuola was born from an idea by professor Marco Bazzoli, a music teacher who wanted to share his love for singing with his students and give them the courage to perform in front of an audience. In nearly twenty years of history, the competition has given hundreds of young people the opportunity to perform live, becoming a true landmark for the school community and the entire town. Many former participants still remember that evening as one of the most beautiful experiences of their middle school years.
In the months leading up to the final, students undergo internal auditions to select the finalists. Each student is free to choose their own song: from international music classics to contemporary Italian pop hits, from Marco Mengoni to Emma, and the most popular tracks of the moment. On stage, each finalist performs their song before a jury composed of teachers, community representatives, and local figures, who are tasked with awarding the most compelling performances.
The final takes place at the amphitheater of the Parco Urbano in Lavis, in an atmosphere of great community spirit. The evening, hosted by young presenters, features a mix of performances, entertainment, and the announcement of the winners. Admission is free, and the event attracts numerous families every year, closing the school year with a celebration that combines music, emotion, and a sense of community. Cantascuola is much more than a competition: it is a collective ritual that showcases young talent and strengthens the bond between the school and the Lavis community.
On Friday, May 29, 2026, at 8:00 PM, the amphitheater of the Parco Urbano in Lavis hosted the twentieth edition of Cantascuola. Nineteen finalists from middle schools took turns on stage, each interpreting a song of their choice before a jury composed of eleven members, including teachers and community representatives.
The evening marked the farewell of professor Marco Bazzoli, the creator of Cantascuola, who received a commemorative plaque from the school after more than twenty years. Present at the ceremony were principal Francesca Lasaracina, vice-principal Mauro Albertini, and mayor Luca Paolazzi. The event was hosted by young presenters from the institute.
