Camminar Mangiando is one of the most beloved spring events in Castelletto sopra Ticino, a town in the Province of Novara overlooking the Ticino River in the heart of Upper Piedmont. The concept is as simple as it is irresistible: combine an outdoor walk with a series of gastronomic stops to discover the territory while eating and drinking along the way. Launched in 2022, the event has grown year after year, now including the nearby town of Borgo Ticino with a route that connects the two Novara municipalities.

How the walk works

The trail stretches for about 10-12 kilometers through the most beautiful streets of the two towns, along paths and scenic views of the Ticino River. Groups do not start all at once: participants register for a specific time slot and depart in staggered groups, accompanied by a guide, ensuring arrival at each stop without crowds and with plenty of time to relax. It is a formula designed for families, groups of friends, and walkers of all levels, as the pace is that of a gentle stroll rather than a race.

The food and wine stops

The true heart of Camminar Mangiando lies in its delicious stops—usually seven—distributed along the route. It begins with breakfast and continues from one tasting to the next, discovering traditional dishes from the Novara area and Upper Piedmont:

• Welcome breakfast with coffee, juice, and pastries;
• Aperitif with local cured meats;
• A traditional local first course;
• A refreshing sorbet break;
• A main course featuring local products, such as fried lake fish;
• Local cheeses with honey;
• A sweet grand finale with ice cream, coffee, and amaro.

Each stop is managed by the Pro Loco and local associations, providing kitchens, venues, and warm hospitality.

A community event

Camminar Mangiando is organized by the Pro Loco of Castelletto sopra Ticino in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Borgo Ticino and local associations. More than just a festival, it is a community celebration that highlights the identity of the Novara region, its typical products, and the beauty of the river landscape of the Ticino Park and Lake Maggiore. An original and convivial way to spend a spring Sunday dedicated to good food, company, and slow walking.
