The 9,900-meter road race through the streets of Marina di Camerota, the Pearl of the Cilento
Camerota Live is the road running race that brings hundreds of runners every September to the streets of Marina di Camerota, the coastal district of the Municipality of Camerota, in the province of Salerno, in the heart of the Cilento region. This is not a mountain trail or a race isolated from the town; it is an urban event designed between the tourist port, the seafront, and the village hills, which the public follows from the roadside just as they would a local festival.
The event is organized by ASD Cilento Run and is part of the «Cilento di Corsa» circuit, with the patronage of CONI and the Municipality of Camerota. Technically, it is a regional road race registered in the FIDAL Campania calendar, open to categories from Allievi to Master, both male and female.
The start and finish are located at the tourist port of Marina di Camerota. The route consists of an approximately three-kilometer urban loop, entirely secured, to be repeated three times. The total distance is about ten kilometers, officially measured at 9,900 meters in the federal calendar. The profile is challenging, alternating between climbs, flat stretches, and descents; combined with the repeated passage in front of the public at the port, this makes Camerota Live both a technical and spectacular race.
In recent editions, the start has been set for the late afternoon, with athletes crossing the village as the light fades over the sea: this is one of the most recognizable features of the event and one of the reasons the race attracts so many spectators along the route.
Before the main race, the Camerota Live Kid's takes place, with events reserved for children and teenagers on the same streets as the adults. The youth sector is a cornerstone of the event: in 2025, the program also included the «Prepariamoci il futuro» (Preparing for the Future) conference, dedicated to youth issues and the role of sport in personal growth, hosted at the Camerota sports center.
Over time, Camerota Live has built a stable relationship with the world of ultramarathons and health prevention. Recurring guests include Giorgio Calcaterra, three-time 100km world champion, and Pino Pomilia, athlete and LILT ambassador. Even the finisher's medal tells a story: in some editions, it was crafted entirely from terracotta by a local artisan, featuring the stylized silhouette of an athlete, while in 2025 it was designed by Flavio Leo and produced with 3D-printed biodegradable PLA and digital embroidery.
Those who register receive more than just a race bib. In recent years, the organization has built a package of services around the race that makes it an opportunity to discover the territory:
It is a sign of an event designed also as a tool for tourism promotion: running in Marina di Camerota means crossing one of the most photographed villages in the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, among beaches, prehistoric caves, and coastal towers.
Behind Camerota Live is ASD Cilento Run, a running club based in Castelnuovo Cilento, in the province of Salerno, also active with a youth sector and present at various events in the Cilento running calendar. Registration and timing are handled by Camelot Sport. The success of the event also relies on the organizational machine set up with the Municipality of Camerota, law enforcement, the Civil Protection, medical staff, and dozens of volunteers who guard every meter of the circuit.
The event is traditionally scheduled for a Saturday in September, when the Cilento beach season is winding down but the sea is still warm and accommodation prices are more accessible than in August. For those who do not run, it remains an excellent excuse for a day in Marina di Camerota, between the village, the port, and excursions along the coast.
With the 2026 edition, Camerota Live reaches its twelfth appointment: Saturday, September 19, 2026, in Marina di Camerota, in the Municipality of Camerota (province of Salerno). The official distance registered in the calendar is 9,900 meters, on the usual urban loop to be repeated with start and finish at the tourist port.
The race is confirmed in the FIDAL Campania regional calendar as a regional-level road race, organized by ASD Cilento Run. Registration is open on the Camelot Sport platform, which also handles timing: the fee is 10 euros, the deadline to register is set for September 18, 2026, and the number of participants is limited to 200.
As in previous editions, the day is built around the main race but is not limited to it: the Camerota Live Kid's youth races, refreshments with typical Cilento products, free services in the port area, and proposals for discovering the territory are part of the event's identity. The detailed schedule and the names of the guests for the 2026 edition will be released by the organization in the weeks leading up to the race.
Start and finish at the tourist port of Marina di Camerota, a district of the Municipality of Camerota (SA), along the Cilento coast. The route winds entirely through the town of Marina di Camerota.
Registration is done online via the Camelot Sport platform, which also manages timing. For the 2026 edition, the registration fee is 10 euros, with registration closing on September 18, 2026, and a maximum limit of 200 participants.
Watching the race is free: the urban circuit, repeated several times, allows you to see the athletes pass by multiple times from the same spot. The best areas are the port front, near the start and finish, and the seafront.
