Twelve hours of live music from sunset to sunrise on the Santa Maria di Castellabate seafront
Ond'A Marina is the musical marathon with which Santa Maria di Castellabate, a seaside hamlet of the Municipality of Castellabate in the Province of Salerno (Campania), officially bids farewell to summer. The formula is simple and now well-recognized: twelve hours of live music that begin at sunset and continue until the first light of the following day, spread across the Marina Piccola beach and the Perrotti seafront, with the Gulf of Cilento as the only stage setting. There is no single fenced-in stage: the audience moves along the shoreline and the promenade, as music accompanies the transition from evening to night and from night to dawn.
The event was launched in 2024 on the initiative of the municipal administration with a goal declared by Mayor Marco Rizzo: to extend tourist flows beyond the month of August and give the village an identity-defining event linked to the autumn equinox. The idea worked immediately, so much so that by its second edition, Ond'A Marina had become a staple of the municipal calendar, alongside the Festival del Mare, Estate al Castello, the Arena in Villa festival at Villa Matarazzo, and the village's Christmas markets. Today, it attracts audiences from all over Campania and several other Italian regions.
The distinctive feature of Ond'A Marina is its variety: the night is structured as a musical journey that changes register as the hours pass, speaking to very different audiences without ever breaking the flow.
It is the event's signature. When the sky begins to brighten, the audience that has traversed the night gathers on the shore or the Molo delle Gatte to listen to a soloist as the sun rises over the Tyrrhenian Sea: in the first edition, it featured a violin and guitar duo, and in the following one, a harp, with dance and body painting completing the scene. It is a silent and participatory moment, very different from a traditional concert, and it alone justifies the choice to stay awake.
The 2025 edition was explicitly dedicated to peace: through twelve hours of uninterrupted music, the organizers wanted to send a message of hope and unity in a period marked by conflicts. The choice gave the night a more reflective tone, without taking anything away from the popular and festive nature of the event.
Ond'A Marina takes place in a setting that is worth the trip even by day. Castellabate is one of the symbolic municipalities of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, with a coastline awarded the Blue Flag every year and a medieval village on the hill, dominated by the Castello dell'Abate, which can be reached in a few minutes from the marina. Santa Maria is the seaside part: a tourist port, wide beaches, the Perrotti seafront, and, just offshore, the island of Licosa. Those who arrive for the festival find, on the same weekend, a still-mild September, swimmable sea, and one of the most beautiful coasts in Campania.
Ond'A Marina is designed for a broad audience: families and curious visitors at sunset, jazz and classical music lovers in the evening, young people during the night, and travelers and romantics at sunrise. As a widespread, open-air event, it is also well-suited for those who simply want to stroll along the seafront and stop where the music is most appealing.
The 2026 cultural calendar of the Municipality of Castellabate, presented at the beginning of summer, places Ond'A Marina on the weekend of September 19 and 20, 2026, confirming it as one of the established events of the Municipality alongside the Festival del Mare, Estate al Castello, and the Arena in Villa festival. The underlying idea remains unchanged: a musical marathon that starts at sunset and continues until sunrise, without interruption, on the coast of Santa Maria di Castellabate.
The first two editions built a path that crosses genres throughout the night: opening at sunset with acoustic ensembles and brass, an evening slot dedicated to jazz and classical music, DJ sets in the middle of the night, and a sunrise concert entrusted to a solo instrument, on the shore or the pier. The typical location is the Marina Piccola beach with the nearby Perrotti seafront, in the heart of the seaside hamlet of the Municipality, in the Province of Salerno.
As of today, the names of the artists and the exact times for the 2026 edition have not yet been released: the Municipality of Castellabate normally announces the details in the weeks immediately preceding the event, through its institutional website, social channels, and the local Cilento press. This page will be updated as soon as the program is official.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. The official calendar of events for the Municipality of Castellabate indicates Ond'A Marina for September 19 and 20, 2026, and confirms the musical marathon formula from sunset to sunrise on the coast of Santa Maria di Castellabate.
Based on previous editions, the structure of the night includes an opening at sunset, an evening block of concerts, a night block, and the sunrise concert. Artist names, times, and the location of musical points will be communicated by the municipal administration in the weeks leading up to the event.
By car: A2 del Mediterraneo motorway, Battipaglia exit, then SS18 towards Agropoli and provincial roads to Santa Maria di Castellabate (about 70 km from Salerno). By train: Agropoli-Castellabate station on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria line, then bus or taxi to Santa Maria (about 10 km). By plane: Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi or Naples-Capodichino airport.
The Perrotti seafront has restricted traffic during event evenings: it is best to leave the car in the parking areas above the center and reach Marina Piccola on foot. Distances are short, and all musical points are connected by a walk along the sea.
Those staying until the sunrise concert should prepare for the late September night humidity: a sweatshirt or a light jacket is essential, as is a blanket or towel to sit on the sand. Bars and restaurants on the seafront extend their hours during the nights of the event.
Santa Maria di Castellabate has hotels, B&Bs, residences, and holiday homes; in September, rates are lower than in the high season, but the equinox weekend is very popular: it is best to book in advance. Alternatively, you can stay in the upper village of Castellabate or in San Marco.
The program, updated schedules, and official announcements are published by the Municipality of Castellabate on its institutional website and social media channels.
