Wine tasting and stargazing in the Franciscan Convent vineyard
In the municipality of Mezzolombardo, the heart of the Piana Rotaliana in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), Calici di Stelle is the summer food and wine event that weaves together wine, local flavors, and night-sky observation. The festival is the local leg of the major national event promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement, which every year, around the Night of San Lorenzo, opens Italy's wineries, villages, and squares to the union of oenological passion and the fascination of the stars.
The setting is one of the most evocative in the town: the vineyard of the Franciscan Friars' Convent, located at Corso del Popolo 43. As evening falls, among the vines, participants receive a glass and tickets to sample six wines and grappas from local producers, accompanied by delicious local products—cheeses, cured meats, artisan breads, honey, and sweets—and a plate of Teroldego risotto, the signature grape variety of the Rotaliana area.
The Campo Rotaliano region is world-famous for its Teroldego, and Calici di Stelle is the perfect opportunity to get to know local wineries up close and chat directly with the producers. The tasting journey spans red and white wines as well as prized Trentino grappas, in a guided and convivial tasting experience.
The hallmark of the event is its focus on the sky: throughout the evening, it is possible to observe the night sky and various planets through a telescope, with the support of experts from the Rovereto Civic Museum Foundation. Furthermore, inside the convent, an exhibition of early 20th-century viticultural images and tools is set up in collaboration with the San Michele Trentino Ethnographic Museum, showcasing the region's farming traditions and the history of Rotaliana viticulture.
Calici di Stelle is organized by Pro Loco Mezzolombardo in collaboration with the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg Tourist Consortium. It is a recurring event that draws wine lovers, curious visitors, and families every summer for an evening dedicated to taste, conviviality, and the wonder of the summer sky.
The 2026 edition takes place on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM, in the Franciscan Friars' Convent vineyard in Mezzolombardo. The format that has made the event a classic of the Rotaliana summer is confirmed: upon entry, guests receive a glass and tickets to sample the village's wines and grappas, local products, and Teroldego risotto, all with the opportunity to observe the stars and planets through a telescope.
The ticket price for the 2026 edition is currently being finalized. Booking is recommended through the Piana Rotaliana Tourist Consortium.
