Wine, shooting stars, and the Colline Teramane in the village of Colonnella
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Calici di Stelle in Colonnella is the Abruzzo stop of one of Italy's most beloved wine tourism events, created by the Movimento Turismo del Vino. Every year, around the nights of August 10th, the ancient village of Colonnella, in the province of Teramo (Abruzzo), turns into a vast open-air tasting route. Perched on a high hill just a few kilometers from the Adriatic Sea, the town offers a panoramic balcony that is perfect for admiring shooting stars while sampling local wines.
The event takes place in the heart of the village: the route winds along the characteristic staircase and the alleys of the entire historic center, all illuminated for the occasion. Along the way, visitors encounter winery stands, food stations, and sommelier booths, where experts explain the organoleptic properties of each label, with a special focus on the unique characteristics of the Teramo territory.
Colonnella is recognized as a City of Wine and is part of the Controguerra production area, along with neighboring municipalities. The stars of the event are the wines from the Consorzio Tutela Vini Colline Teramane: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, and Controguerra labels. Recent editions have featured around one hundred labels for tasting, thirty wineries, and various food stalls, accompanied by local olive oil producers.
The program traditionally includes masterclasses led by sommeliers: an in-depth look at Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, an introduction to the sensory analysis of extra virgin olive oil, and a masterclass on the Colline Teramane. Alongside the stands, there is an exhibition on the history of wine and a museum area featuring ancient grape-harvesting tools, as well as theatrical and musical entertainment to enliven the evenings.
Organized by the Municipality of Colonnella as part of the national Movimento Turismo del Vino calendar, the event combines wine culture, rural traditions, and slow tourism. Calici di Stelle is now one of the key summer events for the province of Teramo and the entire Abruzzo wine scene, attracting enthusiasts, curious visitors, and families to this charming village nestled between the hills and the sea.
At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition of Calici di Stelle in Colonnella have not yet been published. Based on previous editions, the event is expected during the nights around August 10th, the feast of San Lorenzo, in the historic center of the village in the province of Teramo. The usual tasting route along the staircase and alleys is planned, featuring Colline Teramane wines, thematic masterclasses, and stargazing. The detailed program, participating wineries, and pass costs will be announced by the Municipality of Colonnella closer to the event.
Colonnella is located in the far north of Abruzzo, in the province of Teramo, near the border with the Marche region. By car: take the Val Vibrata exit on the A14 motorway, then follow signs for Colonnella. By train: use the Alba Adriatica-Nereto-Controguerra or Martinsicuro-Villa Rosa stations on the Adriatic line, then continue by car or bus. Nearest airport: Abruzzo Airport in Pescara.
The evenings generally run from 7:00 PM to midnight in the historic center. In recent editions, the tasting pass cost 20 euros (10 tokens for tastings) plus a 5-euro deposit for the glass and holder; discounted rates are available for registered sommeliers.
