A centuries-old fair in the heart of Tuscia

The Buon Consiglio Fair is one of the most traditional and historic events in northern Lazio. It takes place every year on the second Sunday after Easter in the historic center of Bagnoregio, a town in the province of Viterbo world-famous for nearby Civita, the so-called "dying city." The fair has its roots in the rural culture of the Tuscia region and has endured for centuries, maintaining its fixed place in the town's spring calendar.

From rural origins to today's market

Until the early post-war years, the Buon Consiglio Fair was highly popular, especially for the opportunity to find working and fattening cattle, as well as tools, cellar vessels, fabrics, and all sorts of merchandise. It was a major agricultural market where farming families stocked up on everything needed for their homes and fields. As times changed, the fair transformed: today it is a general goods fair that enlivens the streets of the historic center for an entire day with stalls of all kinds.

The route and atmosphere

The stalls are set up along the town's main axis, from Porta Albana to Via Roma, passing through Piazza Cavour and Corso Mazzini. Among the stalls, you will find local products, regional handicrafts, sweets, and merchandise of all kinds, in a festive atmosphere that draws residents and visitors from neighboring towns in the Viterbo Tuscia area.

The Buon Consiglio Lunch

The fair is accompanied by the Buon Consiglio Lunch, a convivial gathering held in Piazza Luigi Cristofori. The menu highlights regional flavors and features a popular fried fish dish, which is also available for takeaway. In the afternoon, the day continues in the spirit of tradition with the briscola tournament, the card game that has always defined social life in Lazio's towns.
