The Taste of Trasimeno
The Brustico and Prosciutto and Melon Festival is held every summer in Villastrada, a hillside hamlet in the municipality of Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia. It is one of the most characteristic festivals in the Lake Trasimeno area, as it focuses on a dish that is emblematic of this territory.
What is Brustico?
Brustico is a typical Trasimeno preparation: fish (usually perch or other lake fish) is cooked directly over a fire made from burning dry reeds from the lake, an ancient technique that gives the meat a unique smoky flavor. It is a humble dish, linked to the culture of fishermen, which the festival helps to preserve.
Dining Under the Stars
Alongside the brustico, the festival menus offer tegamaccio (Trasimeno fish stew), pasta with fish sauce, grilled meat, torta al testo (a traditional flatbread), and, of course, the summer classic prosciutto and melon. The food stalls open in the evening, accompanied by dancing nights with orchestras, in a convivial atmosphere typical of Umbrian village festivals.
Brustico Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the 34th, takes place from July 15 to 19 at the Villastrada Umbra Sports Club, in the hamlet of Villastrada (Castiglione del Lago). The heart of the festival is the brustico, Trasimeno fish grilled over a cane fire, accompanied by tegamaccio, pasta with fish sauce, grilled meat, torta al testo, and the summer classic prosciutto and melon.
The food stalls open in the evening, from 7:30 PM, with dancing evenings hosted by orchestras.

The festival takes place over five evenings at the Villastrada Umbra Sports Club:
- Food stalls open every evening from 7:30 PM, with the typical menu: brustico (Trasimeno fish grilled over cane fire), tegamaccio, pasta with fish sauce, grilled meat, torta al testo, and prosciutto and melon
- Dancing evenings with orchestras
The schedule of orchestras and evening entertainment will be announced by the organizers (Villastrada Umbra Sports Club) on their social media channels in the days leading up to the event.

How to get there
Villastrada is a hamlet of Castiglione del Lago (PG), on the hills south of Lake Trasimeno. It can be reached by car from the Castiglione del Lago area or from the Chiusi-Chianciano exit. The festival takes place at the Villastrada Umbra Sports Club.
Hours and admission
The food stalls open in the evening, generally from 7:30 PM. Admission to the festival area is free; you pay for what you consume.
