Three days of masks, music, and celebration in the heart of the Zizzola
Every year, in the heart of winter, the town of Bra, in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, dresses up for its Carnival. Nestled between the hills of the Roero and the Langhe, the town offers a widespread program that weaves together music, theatre, art, and popular entertainment, transforming squares, theatres, and museums into meeting places for citizens and visitors of all ages.
The 2026 edition spanned an entire weekend, from February 13th to 15th. It kicked off with the Carnival Party at the Giovanni Arpino multi-purpose centre, a masked musical event for adults organised by the Follemente association with Live.it. The festivities continued with a concert-show at the Teatro Politeama and concluded with the traditional afternoon party in Piazza Giolitti.
The cultural heart of the event is the show hosted at the Teatro Politeama Boglione: "The Carnival of the Animals" by Camille Saint-Saëns, presented by the municipal administration with the Alba Philharmonic Orchestra and a theatrical performance by the Scirò collective. It is an opportunity to introduce adults and children to classical music in a playful way, with children encouraged to attend in costume.
The most anticipated moment for the little ones is the party in Piazza Giolitti, promoted by the Salesian Oratory: an afternoon of entertainment, music, board games, and the classic contest for the most beautiful mask. Completing the calendar, the Palazzo Traversa Museum opens its doors for a creative workshop dedicated to children, where masks take shape inspired by the great artists of the 20th century.
The Bra Carnival is an expression of the town's vibrant social and cultural life: parishes, oratories, associations, and the administration collaborate to offer an accessible and family-friendly festival. It is an event that reflects the identity of a city known throughout Italy for its gastronomic culture and focus on quality of life, which, during the Carnival period, knows how to be welcoming and festive.
