The Boscoreale Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the winter calendar of this town in the province of Naples, located in the heart of the Vesuvius area. After a few years' hiatus, the allegorical float parade has returned to enliven the city streets, bringing back a popular tradition deeply loved by the community.
The undisputed stars of the festival are the allegorical floats, true moving works of art created by local artists and artisans. Every year, the papier-mâché figures tackle diverse themes: from political satire and current events to tributes to fairy tales and the cartoon characters most beloved by children. Each float is accompanied by music, costumed groups, and choreography that transform the parade into a colorful and engaging spectacle.
The Boscoreale Carnival stems from a partnership with the neighboring town of Scafati, in the province of Salerno. The two municipal administrations join forces to offer a shared program of parades that cross the bordering territories of the Vesuvio-Sarno area. This synergy, supported by local associations and the Local Police, allows for a richer and more inclusive event capable of drawing thousands of people.
The festival is designed primarily for families and children, the true protagonists of the Carnival. Along the parade route, there is no shortage of confetti, streamers, music, and festive moments that involve both young and old. Admission is free and participation is open to everyone, fostering a sense of belonging within the Boscoreale community.
Situated on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius in Campania, the town of Boscoreale is known for its archaeological heritage—including the famous Roman-era rustic villas and the Antiquarium—and for the agricultural traditions of the Vesuvius area. The Carnival represents a perfect opportunity to experience the town center in a festive spirit and rediscover the value of local folk traditions.
In 2026, the allegorical float festival returned to enliven the Vesuvio-Sarno area. The parades took place on February 17th and 22nd, starting at 3:00 PM: the second parade, on February 22nd, traveled along Via Poggiomarino starting from the border with the Municipality of Boscoreale. The event confirms the ongoing collaboration between the territories of Scafati and Boscoreale, in the provinces of Naples and Salerno.
Boscoreale is located in the province of Naples, on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. By car, it can be reached via the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway (Torre Annunziata Sud exit) or the SS268 Vesuvius state road. By train, the Circumvesuviana station (Naples-Poggiomarino line) connects Boscoreale with Naples and the surrounding towns.
The parades take place along the city streets and participation is free. For updated dates and routes, it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality of Boscoreale and the town of Scafati.
