About Borgustando

Borgustando is a gourmet walking tour that brings the historic alleys of Fresagrandinaria to life on summer evenings. Located in the inland Vasto area of the Chieti province, this event is organized by the local Pro Loco and transforms the village streets into a tasting trail featuring regional delicacies such as scrippelle, cif e ciaf, pallotte cace e ove, local cured meats, wine, and craft beer, all set to the rhythm of roaming live music. It is an evening dedicated to rediscovering the authentic flavors of Abruzzo within the charming atmosphere of an ancient hilltop village.

Borgustando: A taste of tradition in the alleys of Fresagrandinaria

Borgustando is a food and wine festival that, in its summer edition, enlivens the historic center of Fresagrandinaria, a village in the Upper Vasto area of the Chieti province, in the heart of southern Abruzzo. Organized by the Pro Loco Fresagrandinaria APS in collaboration with the Borghi Ospitali network, the event offers a tasting trail along the village's narrow streets and stairways, where local excellence meets music and conviviality under the summer sky.

A journey through flavors and tradition

The concept behind Borgustando is simple and captivating: stroll through the narrow streets of the village while sampling local traditional dishes. Every corner of the historic center becomes a tasting station where visitors can discover Abruzzese specialties prepared according to age-old recipes. The village thus becomes a natural stage, rich in scenic views and evocative corners to explore step by step.

Tasting specialties

On Borgustando evenings, the alleys fill with the aromas of the Vasto countryside cuisine. Among the most popular offerings:

  • Scrippelle, traditional leavened dough fritters;
  • Cif e ciaf, a traditional local pork stew;
  • Pallotte cace e ove, cheese and egg balls, a symbol of Abruzzo's peasant cuisine;
  • Local cured meats, starting with the famous Ventricina del Vastese;
  • Wine and craft beer to accompany the dishes.

Music and village atmosphere

As you taste, the historic center serves as a backdrop for various roaming musical performances: folk groups, DJs, and live bands accompany visitors along the route, creating a festive atmosphere that engages both adults and children. Borgustando is designed as a family-friendly event, capable of showcasing the authentic dishes and traditions of an Abruzzese village far from the beaten path of mass tourism.

Fresagrandinaria and the Vasto area

Fresagrandinaria is a small hilltop municipality in the province of Chieti, overlooking the Trigno valley and located a short distance from the Costa dei Trabocchi. Borgustando is part of the village's summer calendar and the wider Vasto food and wine circuit, which promotes inland villages through their gastronomic excellence, such as Ventricina and local wines. The summer edition has a natural counterpart in the winter version of the event, which brings the same flavors to the village during the Christmas season, warming up the cold winter nights.

Borgustando — edition 2026

The 2026 summer edition of Borgustando is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, in Fresagrandinaria, as a stop on the "Ventricina & Bollicine 2026" food and wine circuit that unites the villages of the Vasto area (Cupello, Scerni, Fresagrandinaria, Torrebruna, Pollutri, and Ortona). This year, the historic center's alleys will once again host the tasting trail featuring traditional Abruzzese specialties, accompanied by live music. The detailed program with stands and entertainment will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.

Borgustando returns to Fresagrandinaria on Saturday, August 8, 2026, for its summer date, part of the "Ventricina & Bollicine 2026" circuit involving six villages in the Vasto area. The historic center will once again be transformed into a tasting trail featuring scrippelle, cif e ciaf, pallotte cace e ove, local cured meats, wine, and craft beer, with roaming musical entertainment along the alleys. The complete program, including the list of gastronomic stations and musical performances, will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
