A day of music and street arts in the medieval village of Certaldo Alto
Borgo e Musica is the mid-spring event that brings Certaldo Alto to life, the stunning medieval village perched on a hill in the Valdelsa, in the province of Florence. For an entire day in mid-May, the cobblestone streets, small squares, and most picturesque corners of the upper town turn into an open-air stage, welcoming artists, associations, locals, and visitors alike.
From 12:00 PM onwards, the village fills with roving performances, concerts, street artists, and plenty of magic. Rather than a single stage, the event offers a multitude of moments to discover while wandering: musicians playing on street corners, street artist performances, and shows that pop up unexpectedly along the path leading to the top of the village.
The festival is organized by the Ritmi e Radici APS association, created in partnership with numerous local entities and supported by the Municipality of Certaldo. Admission is free: anyone can head up to the upper village and let the music guide them, discovering new artists with every edition.
The event weaves together concerts, cultural initiatives, exhibitions, and social gatherings, restoring Certaldo Alto's vocation as a vibrant, shared space. It is a unique opportunity to rediscover the village where Giovanni Boccaccio was born, with its red brick architecture, the Casa Boccaccio, and the Palazzo Pretorio serving as the natural backdrop for the festivities.
Borgo e Musica is best experienced on foot. We recommend heading up to Certaldo Alto by foot or via the funicular, leaving your car in the lower part of the town, and dedicating the afternoon to exploring the village while following the music and performances. The day is perfect to combine with a visit to the monuments of Certaldo Alto and a stop at the shops and traditional eateries of the Tuscan Valdelsa.
