The premier Italian event dedicated to Pinot Noir, held between Montagna and Egna
Every spring, the small town of Montagna/Montan, together with neighboring Egna/Neumarkt, transforms into the Italian capital of Pinot Noir (known in German as Blauburgunder). Located in the South Tyrol Lowlands within the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, this region is one of the finest areas for this refined and demanding red grape, which has been cultivated here since the late 19th century. It is celebrated especially in the cru of Mazzon, a hamlet of Egna nicknamed «the paradise of Pinot Noir».
The Blauburgundertage were founded in 1999 by a group of enthusiasts and local producers, now united as the Verein Blauburgundertage (Pinot Noir Days Association). They have grown into the only event in Italy entirely dedicated to this variety. The highlight is the National Pinot Noir Competition: over a hundred labels from Italy's main wine regions—including South Tyrol, Trentino, Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Marche, Tuscany, Umbria, and Abruzzo—are blind-tasted by a jury of oenologists, sommeliers, and wine journalists. The winning wines are announced and celebrated at the Castello di Enn (Schloss Enn), which overlooks the village of Montagna.
Alongside the competition, the program offers visitors the chance to discover the award-winning wines firsthand: public tastings in Egna, masterclasses, guided vertical tastings, vineyard walks (Pinot Noir Experience) toward Glen and Mazzon, and newer initiatives like «Pinot Noir & Bike». The event is complemented by the Blauburgundernächte (Pinot Noir Nights), a series of gastronomic evenings held in the weeks leading up to the festival at restaurants in Egna, Montagna, Ora, and Salorno, featuring menus paired with local labels.
For Montagna and the entire Province of Bolzano, the Pinot Noir Days are much more than a wine fair: they are an opportunity to showcase the wine culture of South Tyrol, compare local production with the best national and international expressions of the grape, and highlight a landscape of terraced vineyards recognized throughout Europe. Every year, the event draws enthusiasts, professionals, and curious visitors along the South Tyrol Wine Road.
From May 15 to 18, 2026, Montagna and Egna hosted the 28th edition of the Pinot Noir Days, confirming the South Tyrol Lowlands' role as the Italian benchmark for Blauburgunder. At the heart of the event was the national Pinot Noir competition, with over a hundred labels from Italy's main wine regions evaluated by a jury of oenologists, sommeliers, and journalists, with awards presented at Castello di Enn.
The public enjoyed tastings of the winning wines in Egna, masterclasses, guided vertical tastings, Pinot Noir Experience vineyard walks, and Blauburgundernächte evenings at restaurants along the Wine Road.
The 2026 Pinot Noir Days spanned four days (May 15-18) between Montagna/Montan and Egna/Neumarkt, following the event's established structure:
