The family and children's bike ride for sustainable mobility in Occimiano
Bimbimbici is the event that turns the streets of Occimiano, a small town in the Monferrato area of the province of Alessandria (Piedmont), into a giant two-wheeled playground for children and families. It is the local version of one of Italy's most well-known cycling tourism events, promoted nationally by FIAB (Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation) and organized locally by the Municipality of Occimiano in collaboration with FIAB Monferrato.
The initiative was born with a simple and important goal: to introduce children to the daily use of bicycles, spread the culture of road safety, and promote more sustainable, city-friendly mobility. For one day, the town's streets become a space for the youngest, who pedal accompanied by their parents in a festive atmosphere, through squares, town center streets, and the unpaved 'white roads' typical of the Monferrato countryside.
Bimbimbici is not a race but a collective, slow, and non-competitive ride, designed so that everyone can participate: from the youngest on their first bikes to the adults accompanying them. The loop route touches the streets of Occimiano and winds along the dirt roads surrounding the town, offering a glimpse of the hilly landscape of the Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Occimiano event is part of the great national Bimbimbici festival, which involves over 200 Italian cities and tens of thousands of children, families, and volunteers every year. Participating in Occimiano therefore means taking part in an event that, across the entire peninsula, calls for safer and more livable streets for children.
Thanks to the involvement of the Pro Loco, local associations, and law enforcement, Bimbimbici is also a meeting point for the entire community of Occimiano: an afternoon where education, sports, play, and environmental awareness merge into a single shared experience that is free and open to all.
The event takes place in Piazza Oratorio Don Bosco in Occimiano (AL), in the afternoon. Participation is free and open to everyone.
Simply show up at the meeting point with a roadworthy bicycle. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Wearing a helmet is recommended. Registration takes place directly in the square before the start.
Occimiano is located in the Monferrato Casalese plain, in the province of Alessandria, and is easily reachable by car from the local motorway exits. The meeting point is in the town center, at the Oratorio Don Bosco.
