A parade of allegorical floats and masked groups in the village of the Monti Dauni
During the Carnival season, the village of Biccari, perched on the Monti Dauni in the province of Foggia, comes alive with one of the most anticipated events of the Puglian winter. The streets and alleys of the historic center become the stage for a grand parade of allegorical floats and masked groups, in a riot of color, music, and joy that involves the entire community. It is a deeply popular festival, built by the inhabitants themselves, who renew their enthusiasm and desire to be together every year.
The heart of the event is the procession that crosses the town: alongside the allegorical floats, handcrafted over the preceding months, numerous masked groups animate the streets with choreography, costumes, and music. The theme accompanying the most recent parade is wonder, magic, and fantasy, highlighting the fairytale and playful dimension of the event. Participation is open to everyone, from children to adults, transforming the historic center into a large space for shared celebration.
Biccari is one of the most characteristic villages of the Subappennino Dauno, with a town center at an altitude of about 450 meters and a territory that extends to Monte Cornacchia, the highest peak in Puglia at 1,151 meters. In this setting of woods, ancient traditions, and intimate atmosphere, the Carnival represents a moment of strong community identity, marking the calendar of popular festivals of the Municipality of Biccari alongside other annual appointments.
The Carnival parade is part of a cycle of winter rituals deeply rooted in the town. On January 17th, for Saint Anthony Abbot, the village lights up with the evocative "foche de Sant'Antone", bonfires lit in various points of the historic center and maintained by the various districts and families, which symbolically mark the beginning of the Carnival period. The Carnival represents its natural extension, between devotion, conviviality, and folklore.
The Biccari Carnival is an ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of inland Puglia, far from the most touristy routes and close to the traditions of the Monti Dauni. Between floats, masks, and music, visitors can experience the genuine atmosphere of a village festival, savor typical local cuisine, and enjoy the landscape of the Capitanata. An event that combines fun, popular culture, and a sense of belonging.
The 2026 edition of the Biccari Carnival was held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, coinciding with Shrove Tuesday. The gathering was scheduled for 5:45 PM near the gas station, the starting point of the parade that then crossed the alleys of the historic center.
The protagonists of the procession were the allegorical floats and the twelve masked groups, which animated the town with costumes, choreography, and music, following the theme of "wonder, magic, and fantasy." The event confirmed the vitality of a tradition deeply felt in the village of the Monti Dauni, in the province of Foggia.
Biccari is located in the Subappennino Dauno, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached from the Foggia motorway exit (A14/A16) by continuing towards the Monti Dauni; the reference railway station is Foggia, which is then connected to the town via provincial roads.
Participation in the Carnival parade is free.
We recommend comfortable and warm clothing, suitable for the winter season and the temperatures of the mountain village. Combine your visit with a tour of the historic center and the panoramic views of the Monti Dauni.
