About Bellegra Christmas Markets

Every December, the village of Bellegra, nestled in the Prenestini Mountains near Rome, transforms into a charming Tyrolean-style mountain village. The Christmas Markets bring Piazza del Municipio to life with wooden chalets, local crafts, and regional delicacies. The festivities include an ice skating rink and a packed calendar of events running through Epiphany, featuring tree-lighting ceremonies, choral performances, Cesanese wine tastings, the arrival of Santa Claus on motorcycles, and the Befana. It is a free, family-friendly event set in a magical holiday atmosphere.

Christmas in Bellegra, the City of Panoramas

Perched atop the Prenestini Mountains, just over an hour from Rome, the village of Bellegra is known as the "City of Panoramas" for its sweeping views of the Aniene Valley. During the holiday season, the historic center dresses up for the occasion, becoming one of the most evocative Christmas markets in the eastern province of Rome, with a setting that recalls the traditional mountain villages of the Tyrol.

Chalets and markets in Piazza del Municipio

The heart of the event is Piazza del Municipio, where characteristic Tyrolean-style wooden chalets are set up. Amidst the lights and decorations, you can find handmade gifts, ornaments, holiday sweets, and local products: extra virgin olive oil, honey, jams, and regional wines. A covered tasting area allows visitors to savor the traditional cuisine of the Prenestini Mountains in a convivial atmosphere.

Ice skating rink and family activities

Next to the markets, an ice skating rink is installed, a favorite among children and open throughout the holiday season. There is also a Santa's House, along with workshops, children's entertainment, and musical performances that make Bellegra an ideal destination for a family Christmas trip.

A packed calendar of events

The festival, which takes place on weekends from early December until Epiphany, offers a dense program of events: the tree lighting with children's choirs, tastings dedicated to Cesanese wine, workshops for the little ones, concerts by the Bellegra Music Band and local choirs, the cheerful parade of Santa Clauses on motorcycles, New Year's Eve celebrations in the square, and, on January 6th, the arrival of the Befana with the distribution of gifts.

A local event in the Lazio region

Organized by the Municipality and the Pro Loco of Bellegra, the Christmas Markets celebrate the identity of this corner of Lazio and its food and wine excellence. Its proximity to Rome and other villages in the Prenestini Mountains makes the event a perfect stop for those seeking an authentic holiday atmosphere just a short distance from the capital.
