A Sunday dedicated to bees, honey, and sustainability in the historic center of Veroli
The Bee Festival in Veroli is a day of celebration and outreach entirely focused on bees, honey, and sustainable agriculture. The initiative, promoted by the Ernici Beekeepers Association in collaboration with the municipal administration and the local Pro Loco, takes place every year between late May and early June in the charming historic center of Veroli, a medieval village in the province of Frosinone, in southern Lazio. The goal is clear and highly relevant: to raise awareness among citizens, especially the younger generation, about the importance of bees for biodiversity and the need to protect the environment that sustains them.
The hub of the event is Piazza Mazzoli, the main square of the village overlooked by the town hall. Here, local beekeepers set up their stands and welcome families, enthusiasts, and curious visitors to share the most fascinating aspects of their craft: from practical beekeeping demonstrations and displays of professional tools and equipment to the safe, direct observation of bees at work.
The Bee Festival is designed with children in mind. The program features educational and creative workshops for kids, filled with colors, games, and imagination, alongside informative sessions on the bee life cycle and honey production. It is a precious opportunity to learn up close about the behavior of these pollinators, their utility for agriculture, and their irreplaceable role in the balance of our ecosystem.
The festival also highlights hive products from the region: honey, pollen, propolis, and wax tell the story of the environmental richness of the Ernici Mountains, which frame Veroli and offer diverse blooms and high-altitude pastures ideal for beekeeping. The Ernici Beekeepers, an association of professionals and enthusiasts from the province of Frosinone, promote courses, educational apiaries in schools, and environmental education activities throughout the year: the spring festival is the moment when this commitment meets the entire community.
Attending the Bee Festival is also a great excuse to visit Veroli, one of the most fascinating villages in Ciociaria: the Basilica of Santa Salome with its Holy Stairs, the remains of the Cyclopean walls, the medieval alleys, and the views over the Sacco Valley are well worth the trip. The Municipality of Veroli includes the festival in its spring calendar of events, welcoming visitors into the rich summer season of the Lazio Region.
The 2026 edition of the Bee Festival took place on Sunday, May 31 in the historic center of Veroli, starting at 11:00 AM. Promoted by the Ernici Beekeepers Association, the day was entirely dedicated to discovering the world of bees and their role in the ecosystem, with the aim of raising awareness among citizens — especially the younger generation — about the importance of these pollinators and the need to protect the environment that sustains them.
The program offered practical beekeeping demonstrations, an exhibition of professional materials and equipment, educational workshops for children, informative sessions on the bee life cycle and honey production, as well as the direct observation of bees at work. A free event open to everyone, designed for families and those wishing to get closer to the world of the hive.
By car: From Rome, take the A1 motorway and exit at Frosinone, then follow signs for Veroli (approx. 15 km); parking is available near the historic center. By train: Take the train to Frosinone station on the Rome-Cassino line, then catch a COTRAL bus to Veroli.
The festival is free to attend and suitable for families and children. Activities take place outdoors in Piazza Mazzoli and the historic center.
The village streets are paved with stone and feature inclines: comfortable shoes are recommended. The visit pairs perfectly with a tour of the Basilica of Santa Salome and the Cyclopean walls of Veroli.
