A corner of Bavaria in the hills of the Nola area
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
There is a moment between late July and early August when the small town of Visciano, perched in the hills of the Nola area in the province of Naples, completely changes its character. The sports field on Via Eremo dei Camaldoli fills with long wooden tables, tents, blue-and-white flags, and German-language signs: this is the Bavarian Festival, an event that for over ten years has brought the spirit of Oktoberfest to the heart of Campania.
Born around 2015 as an experiment by a local restaurateur, the festival has grown year after year to become one of the most popular summer events in the Nola region, attracting visitors from across the province of Naples and the neighboring areas of Avellino and Caserta.
The heart of the event is the food. The kitchens work non-stop to offer a menu that faithfully follows Bavarian gastronomic tradition, with generous portions and village-festival prices. Highlights returning every year include:
Accompanying the dishes is Paulaner beer, served in traditional one-liter glass steins known as Maß. It is the gesture that defines the festival's identity more than any other: the collective toast, steins clinking across shared tables, and the overflowing foam. While smaller sizes are available, the Maß remains the most photographed item of the evening.
Alongside the dining area, the program features live music and DJ sets every night, blending Bavarian sounds, 80s and 90s revivals, and the more lighthearted side of Neapolitan song. Past editions have featured popular artists from the Neapolitan scene, in a style the organizers call 'irreverent music made in Naples with a touch of Deutschland'. There is also entertainment and activities for children, making the festival family-friendly.
The creator of the event is Luigi Ferrante, a food and beverage entrepreneur and owner of Paninoteca da Gino, who has built an organizational machine capable of managing eight consecutive nights of high attendance. Recent editions have exceeded 50,000 visitors, a figure that has necessitated expanding the area, adding new kitchen stations, and implementing more structured parking management.
Visciano has just over 4,000 inhabitants and is located halfway between the Nola plain and the Partenio mountains. The town is known for its sanctuary and its hilly landscape dotted with olive groves and chestnut woods: those arriving for the festival can also enjoy a walk through the villages of the Nola area, a short distance from Nola, Cicciano, and Roccarainola. The event takes place entirely outdoors, on evenings when the hill breeze makes the temperature more pleasant than on the coast.
The Bavarian Festival is traditionally held between late July and early August, over eight consecutive nights. The 2025 edition, the eleventh, took place from July 26 to August 2; the 2024 edition from July 27 to August 3. Dates for the following edition are usually announced a few weeks in advance on the event's official channels.
At the time of checking, there are no official announcements regarding the dates of the Bavarian Festival in Visciano for 2026. There is no reason to expect a cancellation: the event has grown steadily in recent years and reached its eleventh edition in 2025, but organizers typically announce the calendar and musical program close to the event, often no earlier than the second half of July.
If the formula remains the same, the festival will occupy eight consecutive nights at the sports field on Via Eremo dei Camaldoli in Visciano, in the province of Naples. The setup remains consistent: kitchens active all evening with pork knuckle, German sausages, Bavarian schnitzel, pretzels, sauerkraut, potatoes, leberkase, and krapfen, Paulaner beer served in one-liter steins, a stage with live music and DJ sets, space for families, and free entry to the area.

By car: Take the Nola exit on the A16 Naples-Canosa motorway, then follow provincial roads toward Visciano (approx. 10 km). From Naples, take the A16 or SS7bis towards Nola, a journey of about 40 minutes. The town is in the hills and access roads are narrow: it is best to arrive early and follow signs for the parking areas set up during the festival nights.
By public transport: The nearest train station is Nola (Circumvesuviana EAV, Naples-Baiano line), connected to Visciano by local buses with limited evening service. For the return trip at night, it is advisable to arrange your own transport.
Access to the festival area is traditionally free: you only pay for what you consume, with festival-style pricing for dishes and beer steins. No reservations are required for the communal tables.
Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest: those wanting to find a seat comfortably should arrive by 8:00 PM. For those wishing to stay overnight, accommodation is concentrated in Nola, Cicciano, and along the route to Avellino, all less than twenty minutes away by car.
