The splendor of European Baroque on period instruments, in the heart of Ivrea
The Baroque & more Baroque Music Festival is the event that, in the heart of Ivrea (Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont), brings the sounds of the great European Baroque era back to life. The festival, promoted by the City of Ivrea through its Tourism Office, takes place within the Teatro Civico Giuseppe Giacosa, the historic Italian-style theater overlooking Piazza Teatro in the city center.
At the heart of the festival is the international ensemble "Baroque & more," which brings together professional musicians united by a passion for early music. The group stands out for its use of period instruments and a philological approach to the repertoire, performed according to the performance practices of the time: a way to restore the authentic timbre and liveliness of 17th and 18th-century compositions to the audience. The program spans the great authors of European Baroque, in a journey that highlights both the most famous pages and less-frequented discoveries of the repertoire.
The festival is concentrated over a spring weekend and features its highlight in the evening concert at the Teatro Giacosa. The choice of a historic theater hall is no coincidence: the building's acoustics and intimate atmosphere are ideally suited for listening to chamber music and Baroque ensembles, creating a suggestive dialogue between the architectural heritage of Ivrea and the European musical heritage.
Consistent with its vocation as a civic cultural event, the festival is free of charge ("free and welcome participation"): an opportunity open to everyone, residents and visitors alike, to approach Baroque music without barriers. Ivrea, already known for its historic Carnival and the Olivetti industrial heritage recognized by UNESCO, thus confirms its attention to quality cultural offerings, expanding the Canavese's repertoire with an event dedicated to classical music.
