A traveling literary festival through the historic bagli of Misiliscemi
Bagli Narranti – Misiliscemi Reads is the traveling literary festival that, since 2023, has accompanied the spring season in the municipality of Misiliscemi, a young town in the province of Trapani formed by the union of several local districts. The concept behind it is simple and captivating: to bring books and their authors into the historic bagli, the ancient fortified farmsteads that dot the Sicilian countryside, transforming these relics of rural memory into stages for words and storytelling.
Each meeting takes place in a different location, following a traveling format that highlights the architectural and landscape heritage of the area. Venues hosting the festival include Villa Immacolatella, Baglio Elena in the Pietretagliate district, Agriturismo Vultaggio, and Baglio LiberaMeLiberaTutti. The courtyards and open spaces of these estates become reading rooms under the Western Sicilian sky, offering the public an experience that goes far beyond a simple book presentation.
The program, typically consisting of six events, alternates between contemporary fiction, poetry, children's literature, and non-fiction, featuring nationally renowned writers. Past editions have hosted names such as Viola Ardone, Donatella Di Pietrantonio, Nino De Vita, Enrico Galiano, and Nicoletta Bortolotti, in conversation with local journalists and moderators. All meetings begin at 6:00 PM.
The festival is promoted by the Misiliscemi Association together with the Municipality of Misiliscemi and the Pro Loco Misiliscemi APS, with the support of UNPLI and the collaboration of bookstores in the Trapani area. More than just a series of presentations, Bagli Narranti has become a defining event for the community: a way to build the cultural memory of a newly established municipality, promote reading, and showcase the hidden beauties of this corner of Sicily, nestled between Trapani, Marsala, and the sea.
The fourth edition of Bagli Narranti opened on March 6, 2026, at Villa Immacolatella with Enrico Galiano and his novel Quel posto che chiami casa, and concluded on June 21 at Baglio Elena with Alaa Faraj and Perché ero ragazzo (an appointment originally scheduled for June 6 and later postponed). All meetings were held at 6:00 PM.
Journalist Jana Cardinale engaged in conversation with the authors, with introductions by Antonella Scaduto and the column «La domanda di Francesco» curated by Francesco De Filippi. The festival was promoted by the Misiliscemi Association together with the Municipality of Misiliscemi, the Pro Loco, and UNPLI.
The meetings are held in a traveling format across the historic bagli of the Misiliscemi territory (Trapani province): Villa Immacolatella, Baglio Elena (Pietretagliate district), Agriturismo Vultaggio, and Baglio LiberaMeLiberaTutti.
Between March and June, with six periodic appointments. All meetings start at 6:00 PM.
Misiliscemi is located at the gates of Trapani and is easily accessible by car. The Trapani-Birgi airport and the Trapani train station are just a few kilometers away.
The meetings are open to the public; for details regarding potential reservations, please consult the official channels of the Municipality and the Misiliscemi Association.
