The cherry festival in the village of Montalbano, a hamlet of Carmignano
In the heart of the Montalbano hills, the village of Bacchereto, a charming hamlet in the municipality of Carmignano in the province of Prato, hosts one of the area's most beloved festivals every year in early June: the Cherry Festival. Organized with passion by the Polisportiva Bacchereto, the event celebrates the season's signature fruit and the gastronomic culture of this corner of Tuscany, where vineyards and olive groves shape a landscape that has remained authentic.
Reaching its 31st edition in 2026, the festival is now a permanent fixture on the local calendar, attracting visitors from across the province and the nearby Florence and Prato areas. More than just a simple food festival, it is a moment of community where the village gathers around tables under the stars to enjoy traditional dishes and toast with Carmignano wines.
The food stalls offer the best of home-style Tuscan cuisine, with special attention given to the undisputed queen of the event: the cherry, the star of desserts and specialties. The menu includes:
Accompanying the dishes are the great local wines: the prestigious Carmignano DOCG and the Barco Reale di Carmignano, oenological excellences from one of Italy's oldest denominations.
The Cherry Festival is not just about gastronomy. The evenings are enlivened by live music, featuring performances by the Filarmonica G. Verdi di Bacchereto and entertainment with music and dancing. On the weekend, the village also opens its doors to a fascinating exhibition of ancient majolica, set up in the castle spaces: a nod to the ancient ceramic tradition of Bacchereto, famous in past centuries for its majolica.
Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to explore Bacchereto and the Montalbano hills, a land of wine, extra virgin olive oil, and typical Tuscan hilly panoramas. The hamlet preserves the intimate atmosphere of rural villages, perfect for those seeking an authentic experience away from the main tourist flows, amidst history, flavors, and rural hospitality.
The 2026 edition of the Bacchereto Cherry Festival was held from Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7, confirming the traditional early summer appointment in the hillside village of Carmignano. Food stalls were open Thursday and Friday from 7:30 PM, Saturday from 4:00 PM, and Sunday from 3:00 PM.
The program alternated daily specials—from tripe to fusilli alla puttanesca, and reginette with rabbit ragù—with the essential cherry-based specialties. The evenings were enlivened by live music, with the Filarmonica G. Verdi di Bacchereto and moments of music and dancing, while the castle hosted the exhibition of ancient majolica over the weekend. Free entry.
