A celebration of the king of our seas, featuring tastings and music in the city of almonds
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Swordfish Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the summer in Avola, a city in the Val di Noto in the province of Syracuse, Sicily. Every year, in the heart of the Ferragosto period, the festival pays tribute to what the organizers call "the king of our seas": the swordfish, the absolute star of a grand outdoor popular celebration.
Along the food stalls set up for the occasion, you can savor recipes that highlight the freshness and quality of this prized fish: from grilled swordfish to traditional seafood pasta dishes, as well as sandwiches and more innovative preparations. The local cuisine of Avola, deeply linked to the sea and the land, creates a tasting journey that is also a voyage through Sicilian culinary culture.
The festival is not just about food: every evening is enriched by musical performances, entertainment, and activities for all ages, featuring local artists. There is a play area for children with games and activities, while a market winds along the path, offering typical Sicilian sweets: cannoli, crispelle, almond biscuits, and other local confectionery specialties, in a city that has made the almond tree its symbol.
Organized by the Club Musica Sound association, the Swordfish Festival has established itself as one of the flagship events of the Avola summer, part of the rich calendar of events that the Municipality of Avola proposes every year, blending culture, folklore, religion, and fun. The setting is Via Papa Giovanni Paolo II, which for a few evenings transforms into a great village of taste overlooking the Ionian Sea.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Avola Swordfish Festival have not yet been officially announced by the organizers. The event is traditionally held in August, during the Ferragosto period, along Via Papa Giovanni Paolo II.
As in previous editions, we expect a program that combines grilled swordfish tastings and traditional seafood dishes with musical performances, entertainment for children, and a market of typical Sicilian sweets. The detailed program will be communicated by the organizers, presumably in the weeks leading up to the event, through the festival's social media channels.
