International blues and black music stars in the heart of Avezzano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Avezzano Blues Festival was founded in 2006 by Luciano Anselmi and his event production team, establishing itself over the years as a cornerstone for blues and black music enthusiasts in Abruzzo and central Italy. Each edition transforms Piazza Risorgimento, in the heart of Avezzano, into a grand open-air stage featuring a lineup of voices and guitarists from both the national and international scenes.
Over the years, under the artistic direction of Anselmi himself, Avezzano has hosted leading figures of the global blues scene: from Willie King to John Sinclair, Matt Schofield to Rusty Wright, as well as Randy Hansen and numerous ensembles from Chicago, Texas, and across the United States. This commitment to quality has made the festival a highly anticipated event for a loyal audience traveling to the Marsica region from all over the area.
The festival's format is well-established: two consecutive nights of free concerts, starting at 9:00 PM, featuring multiple artists each evening. Free admission and the setting of the town square make the Avezzano Blues Festival a popular and accessible event, capable of uniting the passion of genre connoisseurs with the curiosity of casual passersby.
Alongside the summer event in the square, the project has expanded in recent years to include a Winter Edition hosted within the evocative Castello Orsini-Colonna in Avezzano, featuring concerts dedicated to soul and blues, often linked to social awareness initiatives. The festival thus contributes to keeping the city's music scene vibrant all year round.
Located in the Fucino basin in the province of L'Aquila, Avezzano is the main hub of the Marsica region in Abruzzo. Rebuilt after the 1915 earthquake, the city offers visitors the Castello Orsini-Colonna, the remains of the ancient Fucino basin, and easy access to the nearby Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. The festival is an excellent opportunity to combine an evening of live music with the discovery of the Marsican territory.
At the moment, the official dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Avezzano Blues Festival are not yet available. Based on previous editions, the summer festival is expected to take place in July in Piazza Risorgimento, Avezzano, with free concerts dedicated to international blues and black music. The detailed program will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Avezzano is easily accessible by car via the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway (Avezzano exit). By train, Avezzano station is served by the Rome-Pescara line. Piazza Risorgimento is located in the city center, a short distance from the station.
Concerts for the summer edition in Piazza Risorgimento are free and generally start at 9:00 PM. Any Winter Edition events at the Castello Orsini may require an entry ticket: please check the festival's official channels for updates.
We recommend checking the updated dates and program on the official Avezzano Blues Festival Facebook page before traveling.
