The festive musical highlight in the Piana del Cavaliere village
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Pereto Christmas Concert is one of the most cherished festive events in the small village of Piana del Cavaliere, in the province of L'Aquila. Every year, in the heart of December, music brings the village to life, gathering residents and visitors in the reflective and joyful atmosphere typical of the holiday season. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Pereto in collaboration with local cultural and musical associations.
The concert is rooted in the work of local musical groups. The "Corrado Iannola" Cultural Musical Association, founded in Pereto in 2006 and named after a young local man who passed away prematurely, brings together about fifty musicians of all ages, from six to seventy. For years, they have carried on this Christmas tradition, which has now reached over seventeen editions, cementing its place in the community. Alongside the town band, guest groups such as the Accademia Musicale Romana have performed over the years, presenting classical and Christmas-themed pieces with young performers and choirs.
The program usually ranges from classical to contemporary repertoire, with an essential selection of Christmas carols. There are also moments dedicated to children, who often open the evening with iconic songs like "Jingle Bells". Public participation is always warm: a packed hall and thunderous applause accompany the performance, testifying to the deep bond between music and village life.
The concert is part of a broader calendar of initiatives that animate the village during the holidays, including the lighting of the tree, Christmas markets, roasted chestnuts, and mulled wine. Pereto, with its 16th-century Church of San Giovanni Battista and its historic center streets, offers a picturesque setting for these celebrations. The event represents an important piece of the cultural identity of this corner of mountainous Abruzzo, where folk traditions and a passion for music continue to unite generations.
The Pereto Christmas Concert is a recurring festive event in the village in the province of L'Aquila. For the 2026 edition, the dates and program have not yet been officially released. Based on the tradition of previous years, the event is usually held in the second half of December. It is recommended to consult the channels of the Municipality of Pereto and local musical associations to find out the date, venue, and details as soon as they become available.
Pereto is located in the Piana del Cavaliere, in the province of L'Aquila, near the border with Lazio. By car, it can be reached via the A24/A25 motorway (exits in the Carsoli-Oricola area). The nearest train station is Carsoli, on the Rome-Pescara line.
The concert is traditionally free to attend. It is recommended to check the date, venue, and time with the Municipality of Pereto and the organizing associations as the holidays approach.
