About AUT AUT

AUT AUT – Culture Against the Mafia is the festival that in Bazzano, in the Municipality of Valsamoggia (Metropolitan City of Bologna), combines concerts, meetings, and performances to promote a culture of legality, historical memory, and rights. Born in 2012 and organized by the Fondazione Rocca dei Bentivoglio, it chooses a different theme each year and brings live music and free civil debates to Piazza Garibaldi.

A festival against the mafia and for rights in Valsamoggia

AUT AUT – Culture Against the Mafia is a regional event born in 2012 in Bazzano, in the Municipality of Valsamoggia, in the province of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna). The festival promotes a culture of legality, the fight against the mafia, respect for institutions and social rules, particularly targeting young people. Over the years, its scope has expanded to embrace the culture of rights in all its nuances, social justice, historical memory, and civic education.

Who organizes AUT AUT

The event has been coordinated from the beginning by the Fondazione Rocca dei Bentivoglio and, since 2019, operates through the CLICA – Center for Legality, Inclusion, and Active Citizenship of Valsamoggia. The festival relies on a vast network of partners: the Municipality of Valsamoggia, Libera Bologna, Avviso Pubblico, Coop Alleanza 3.0, ANPI, local Pro Loco associations, and schools. The activities are part of the Emilia-Romagna regional law on the promotion of legality and responsible citizenship.

What to experience during the festival

AUT AUT alternates moments of reflection and celebration: meetings and debates with magistrates, journalists, scholars, and witnesses; screenings of documentaries and video investigations; live concerts with local bands and national guests. The heart of the event is Piazza Garibaldi in Bazzano, while meetings and screenings are often held at the evocative Rocca dei Bentivoglio. Each edition is dedicated to a specific theme, chosen to shed light on a chapter of Italian and international civil history or current events.

An event for the community

Designed primarily for younger generations, the festival is a space for active participation where the Youth Council and schools play a leading role. Admission to all events is free, confirming the popular and inclusive nature of the event, which has enlivened the spring of Valsamoggia for over ten years.

AUT AUT — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of AUT AUT was dedicated to Giulio Regeni, on the tenth anniversary of his abduction, and to international law scenarios. On Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10, Piazza Garibaldi in Bazzano hosted concerts, human rights meetings, and the naming of CLICA after Giulio Regeni, with a video link to his parents Paola Deffendi and Claudio Regeni.

AUT AUT 2026: in the square with Giulio Regeni

The 2026 edition, titled "In the square with Giulio Regeni – International Law Scenarios," took place on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, in Piazza Garibaldi in Bazzano. The festival commemorated Giulio Regeni on the tenth anniversary of his abduction and death in Egypt, making human rights and international law the common thread of concerts, debates, and performances, all with free admission.

The central moment of the edition was the naming of CLICA – Center for Legality, Inclusion, and Active Citizenship after Giulio Regeni, with a video link to his parents. The meetings addressed the Balkan route, the Iranian issue, and the present and future of Israel and Palestine, interspersed with live music.
