A walk and a jazz concert on the paths of the Bolognese Hills
Among the numerous events of the 2026 edition of the Crinali festival, the Municipality of Monte San Pietro, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna), hosts one of the most evocative stops: a day that combines hiking, landscape, and live music on the gentle heights of the Bolognese Hills. It is here, among chestnut woods and ancient ridges, that the festival implements its most recognizable formula: walking together and arriving at a performance with nature itself as the backdrop.
The Monte San Pietro stop takes place along path 04 "Land of fairies and brigands", a route that crosses the municipal territory and, as its name suggests, tells the fairy-tale and wild soul of these hills. The walk is easy-to-medium difficulty and is designed to be accessible even to those who are not expert hikers: the goal is not athletic performance, but the pleasure of moving through the landscape while waiting for the musical moment.
The walk leads to the Church of San Cristoforo di Monte Severo, a small place of worship nestled in a chestnut grove and reachable along Via Montesevero. In this secluded and timeless place, the final concert is held, entrusted to saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer Achille Succi, one of the most recognized voices in jazz and improvisation in Italy. The recital revolves around the theme of improvisation, in dialogue with the natural acoustics of the place and the silence of the surrounding woods.
Crinali is a widespread event that brings music, theater, circus, and cinema along the paths and in the villages of the Bolognese Apennines. Promoted by the Union of Municipalities of the Bolognese Apennines, the festival offers dozens of performances distributed across numerous municipalities in the area, always with the same underlying idea: reaching cultural venues on foot, rediscovering paths, country churches, and scenic viewpoints that would otherwise be difficult to encounter. The Monte San Pietro stop is a perfect example of this philosophy, where artistic quality combines with the enhancement of the local landscape heritage.
The Monte San Pietro stop is part of the tenth edition of Crinali (May 27 – October 17, 2026), which brings over 60 performances of music, theater, circus, and cinema to 14 municipalities in the Bolognese Apennines.
Free admission with mandatory booking and limited capacity. Among the guests of the entire 2026 edition are also Elio Germano, Teho Teardo, Valeria Sturba, the Orchestra Senzaspine, and Flexus.
The stop is part of the Crinali Musica program of the festival's tenth edition. General program and details at crinalibologna.it.
