The natural history of the Dolomites between glaciations and megafauna
The exhibition "Auronzo Tre Cime: Dai Dinosauri ai Mammut, the story continues" is one of the flagship cultural events of the summer in Auronzo di Cadore, in the province of Belluno. After the success of the project dedicated to dinosaurs, which attracted over 7000 visitors, the exhibition continues the story of natural history by shifting the focus to the glaciations of the Pleistocene and the megafauna that inhabited the mountains.
The exhibition path unfolds between the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade, where full-size reproductions of prehistoric animals are located, and the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto, which houses the indoor exhibition part. An installation designed to engage families, schools, and natural science enthusiasts.
The exhibition is curated by paleontologist Simone Maganuco, who guarantees the scientific rigor of the content. The initiative is part of the cultural enhancement project of the Municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, which during the summer complements sporting events with an offer dedicated to culture and dissemination, in the setting of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
The 2026 edition of the natural history exhibition in Auronzo di Cadore, scheduled from June 27 to September 30, continues the journey started with dinosaurs by shifting focus to the glaciations of the Pleistocene and the megafauna. Full-size reproductions animate the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade, while the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto hosts the indoor exhibition section, curated by paleontologist Simone Maganuco.
The exhibition can be visited from June 27 to September 30, 2026. The path is divided into two areas: full-size reproductions along the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade and the exhibition at the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto. Times and visiting methods to be communicated by the organization on the official channels of the Municipality of Auronzo di Cadore.
Auronzo di Cadore can be reached by car from the A27 (exit Pian di Vedoia, then SS51). The nearest train station is Calalzo-Pieve di Cadore-Cortina, with buses to the town. The exhibition path winds between the Santa Caterina lakeside promenade and the Museo di Palazzo Corte Metto.
