A walk through history, nature, and community in Bene Vagienna
Augusta e Cammina is one of the most cherished events of the season in Bene Vagienna, a small jewel in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Organized by the Pro Loco Benese, the event is a non-competitive walk open to everyone, attracting hundreds of participants every year to the town's streets and the surrounding countryside trails. The event's name pays homage to Augusta Bagiennorum, the ancient Roman city whose ruins—a theater, a forum, and an archaeological area—make Bene Vagienna a unique place where millennia-old history coexists with the Baroque elegance of the historic center.
The idea driving Augusta e Cammina is simple and contagious: walking together to rediscover one's territory. The route crosses the historic center of Bene Vagienna, with its arcades, churches, and noble palaces, before climbing toward the trails of the Santo Stefano hill, amidst agricultural landscapes and glimpses of the Langhe and Monregalese areas. It is a formula that satisfies both those looking for a relaxed stroll and those who prefer a faster pace: the day begins with a non-competitive fun run, followed by a stream of walkers tackling the various routes.
More than just a sporting event, Augusta e Cammina is a town festival: an occasion where the entire community—Pro Loco, volunteers, local associations, Civil Protection, road crews, and local police—comes together to welcome visitors and walkers. The 2026 edition exceeded 800 participants, confirming a formula that grows year by year and makes this event a small symbol of Bene Vagienna's identity: a village that, as the local administration likes to repeat, "knows how to work as a team and how to welcome others."
The 4th edition of Augusta e Cammina, held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, exceeded all expectations, involving over 800 people on the streets and trails of the city of the Bagienni. The morning began at 8:30 AM with the non-competitive fun run, followed by hundreds of walkers along the various routes between the historic center and the Santo Stefano hill.
The organizers expressed great satisfaction: "It was an event organized efficiently by the entire Pro Loco," commented president Giacomo Aime. Mayor Claudio Ambrogio described the event as "fantastic," thanking the Civil Protection, road crews, and local police for their invaluable contribution. An edition that confirmed the growth of an event that has become a symbol of Bene Vagienna's ability to "work as a team and welcome others."
The event offers various tracks designed for every level, from family strolls to more athletic paces, touching the most evocative places in the city between history, archaeology, and landscape.
Bene Vagienna is located in the Province of Cuneo, between Fossano and Mondovì. By car, it can be reached via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Carrù-Mondovì exit) or the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway. The most convenient train station is Fossano, on the Turin-Cuneo line, from where you can continue by car or bus.
The event traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of June, with a morning start (around 8:30 AM for the fun run).
Wear comfortable shoes suitable for both the asphalt of the historic center and the dirt paths of the hill. Bring water, a hat, and sunscreen on hotter days. Take advantage of the day to visit the Augusta Bagiennorum archaeological area and the Baroque center of Bene Vagienna.
