About Augusta e Cammina

Augusta e Cammina is the major non-competitive walking event in Bene Vagienna, located in the heart of the Cuneo province. Every year in early June, the Pro Loco Benese transforms the streets of the Baroque historic center and the trails of the Santo Stefano hill into a single, long route dedicated to sport, landscape, and social connection. A morning designed for everyone—families, walkers, and running enthusiasts—that combines the pleasure of outdoor activity with the discovery of ancient Augusta Bagiennorum, the Roman city that gives the event its name.

A walk in the heart of ancient Augusta Bagiennorum

Augusta e Cammina is one of the most cherished events of the season in Bene Vagienna, a small jewel in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont. Organized by the Pro Loco Benese, the event is a non-competitive walk open to everyone, attracting hundreds of participants every year to the town's streets and the surrounding countryside trails. The event's name pays homage to Augusta Bagiennorum, the ancient Roman city whose ruins—a theater, a forum, and an archaeological area—make Bene Vagienna a unique place where millennia-old history coexists with the Baroque elegance of the historic center.

Sport for everyone, between the historic center and the hills

The idea driving Augusta e Cammina is simple and contagious: walking together to rediscover one's territory. The route crosses the historic center of Bene Vagienna, with its arcades, churches, and noble palaces, before climbing toward the trails of the Santo Stefano hill, amidst agricultural landscapes and glimpses of the Langhe and Monregalese areas. It is a formula that satisfies both those looking for a relaxed stroll and those who prefer a faster pace: the day begins with a non-competitive fun run, followed by a stream of walkers tackling the various routes.

A community celebration

More than just a sporting event, Augusta e Cammina is a town festival: an occasion where the entire community—Pro Loco, volunteers, local associations, Civil Protection, road crews, and local police—comes together to welcome visitors and walkers. The 2026 edition exceeded 800 participants, confirming a formula that grows year by year and makes this event a small symbol of Bene Vagienna's identity: a village that, as the local administration likes to repeat, "knows how to work as a team and how to welcome others."

Why participate

  • A walk suitable for all ages and fitness levels, from families with children to runners.
  • A route that combines Roman archaeology, a Baroque center, and hilly nature.
  • The authentic atmosphere of a Piedmontese community festival, far from the major tourist circuits.
  • The opportunity to discover Bene Vagienna and the Augusta Bagiennorum archaeological area.
