Three days of devotion, tradition, and celebration in the Nebrodi mountains
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Nebrodi Mountains, the small village of Longi, in the province of Messina, experiences its most intense moment of the year with the August Patronal Feasts, dedicated to San Francesco di Paola, the SS. Crocifisso, and San Leone. These celebrations, deeply rooted in the community's devotion, bring the entire town together for a few days, along with the many Longi emigrants who return during this period to reconnect with their roots.
A central figure in the spirituality of Longi is San Leone, a bishop who lived in the 8th century, venerated as the protector of the town. Popular tradition recalls the miracle of 1851, when a landslide threatened the town: the faithful carried the Saint in procession to the site of the danger, and according to the story passed down through generations, the Saint's staff touched the moving earth, causing it to stop. In memory of that event, the area was named Via XXIV Maggio. San Leone is celebrated several times a year, but it is on August 23rd that his statue leaves the Church of San Michele Arcangelo for a solemn procession alongside the SS. Crocifisso.
The celebrations are traditionally spread over three days, between August 21st and 23rd, alternating religious events with entertainment:
The Patronal Feasts represent the heart of the Longi Summer, the calendar of events that brings the Municipality of Longi to life from the beginning of August with treasure hunts, tournaments, inflatable games, concerts, dance nights, the Summer Carnival, the Beer Fest, and numerous religious district festivals. A program that unites generations and celebrates the identity of this corner of Nebrodi Sicily.
Experiencing the Patronal Feasts is also an opportunity to discover Longi and its territory, at the gates of the Nebrodi Park, amidst pristine nature, authentic flavors, and the warm hospitality of a mountain community proud of its traditions.
For the 2026 edition of the Longi Patronal Feasts, official dates and a detailed program are not yet available. Tradition places the festivities in honor of San Francesco di Paola, the SS. Crocifisso, and San Leone around August 23rd, the day of the solemn procession. Information will be updated as soon as it is published by the Municipality of Longi and the parish of San Michele Arcangelo.
Longi is located in the Nebrodi Mountains, in the province of Messina. By car, take the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway and exit at Sant'Agata di Militello or Brolo, then continue along the provincial roads that climb into the Nebrodi interior.
The patronal feasts traditionally take place on August 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, as part of the Longi Summer calendar (August-September).
Religious celebrations and shows in the square are free and open to everyone.
