The great showcase of Tortona's flavors along the Via Emilia
AssaggiaTortona and Surroundings is the food and wine festival that every spring transforms the heart of Tortona, a city in the province of Alessandria in lower Piedmont, into a grand open-air culinary path. For three days, the historic Via Emilia and the town squares fill with stalls, aromas, and flavors: it is the moment when the Tortona territory showcases its excellence, from the wines of the Colli Tortonesi to the typical products of the surrounding valleys.
The heart of the event is tasting. Along the route, you will find nineteen restaurateurs, fifteen winemakers, twenty-seven local producers, and five craft breweries, spread across more than sixty stalls and trucks. It is the perfect opportunity to sample the great whites of the Colli Tortonesi — above all the Derthona Timorasso and the Cortese — alongside traditional reds like Barbera and Croatina.
AssaggiaTortona is not just about food and wine. In the evenings, Piazza Malaspina and Piazza Duomo host DJ sets and concerts curated by the L. Perosi Civic Music Academy, while for the little ones, there are entertainment activities and workshops organized by the VerdeCommerce Educational Farm and the Piemonte Bricks Association. During the event, it is also possible to visit the main city museums for free.
The festival is intertwined with the literary event "Viaggiamo con i libri - Libri dal vivo", hosted in the civic library to promote local authors, and with the Derthona Awards, recognitions dedicated to the excellence of the Tortona area.
Organized by the Municipality of Tortona with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria and the collaboration of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Colli Tortonesi, the event has grown to become one of the most popular food and wine gatherings in lower Piedmont, capable of attracting tens of thousands of visitors from across the region and beyond.
The thirtieth edition of AssaggiaTortona and Surroundings, scheduled from May 22 to 24, 2026, was a great public success: over 65,000 attendees and numerous stalls sold out even before closing. The event extended along the Via Emilia, from Piazza Arzano to Piazza Malaspina, with about eighty exhibitors.
The protagonists were the wines of the Colli Tortonesi — Derthona Timorasso, Cortese, Barbera, and Croatina — and the excellence of the territory, from Tortona strawberries to valley cheeses. Among the side events were the 2026 Derthona Awards, family activities with Tortona Bricks and the Eco Games, and evening concerts in Piazza Duomo and Piazza Malaspina.
Tortona is strategically located at the intersection of major road networks in lower Piedmont. By car: A7 (Milan-Genoa) and A21 (Turin-Piacenza) motorway exits are in the immediate vicinity. By train: Tortona station is well-served on the lines between Genoa, Milan, Turin, and Piacenza, just a few minutes' walk from the Via Emilia.
Friday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Sunday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Admission to the event is free; tastings are paid for directly at individual stalls. It is recommended to arrive early during peak hours on Saturday and Sunday, when attendance is very high.
