Arturnama: returning to Upega

Arturnama is the event that inaugurates the summer in Upega, a small and picturesque hamlet in the Municipality of Briga Alta, in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of the Piedmontese mountains. The name, in the Brigasco dialect, literally means "we return": an affectionate call to those—whether locals or second-home owners—who return to the village with the arrival of the warmer season. The festival, hosted by the Pro Loco Upega, weaves together conviviality, culture, and nature in a day that celebrates the identity of the Terra Brigasca.

A convivial lunch in the mountains

The heart of the day is the pasta and beans lunch, a simple and hearty traditional mountain dish, shared outdoors among the stone houses of the village. It is a moment when the community gathers, families reunite, and visitors are welcomed with the hospitality typical of these high-altitude towns. Reservations are required a few days in advance to allow the Pro Loco to organize the event as effectively as possible.

Culture and nature in the upper Tanaro Valley

Arturnama is not just about gastronomy. Each edition offers a cultural moment—such as book presentations, lectures, or workshops—and a guided nature workshop dedicated to discovering the alpine environment: in recent editions, for example, a guide led participants in exploring mountain insects and ecosystems. It is the perfect opportunity to explore the trails surrounding Upega, from the famous Bosco delle Navette to the pristine landscapes of the upper Tanaro Valley.
