A festival of expressive hypotheses in the village of Fara in Sabina
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
ARTEr.i.e., subtitled Festival of Expressive Hypotheses, is a widespread event that lights up the historic center of Fara in Sabina, in the heart of the province of Rieti, Lazio, every September. Born in 2005 from the vision of the Metacultural Research and Experimentation Center, the festival turns the village's alleys, squares, and courtyards into one large open-air stage, where arts are showcased for free, purely for the joy of sharing.
The concept is simple and fascinating: each street in the town hosts one of the major arts, allowing visitors to stroll through them all in a single evening. The trails are color-coded, starting from Piazza Garibaldi, the festival's meeting point:
As night falls, the artists reach their designated streets and begin their performances simultaneously: the "arteries" of the village open up, and music, acting, and dance resonate throughout the medieval walls.
Alongside live performances, the festival features art installations scattered throughout the town, including spaces within the Civic Archaeological Museum. In the afternoon, literary aperitifs in Piazza Duomo alternate author presentations with piano interludes, while the ARTEr.i.e. for Kids section offers creative workshops, shows, and games for children. The festival's philosophy centers on hospitality: every guest artist is welcomed with a dinner, the official festival t-shirt, and the warmth of the Sabina land.
Since its early editions, the festival has traveled through various Sabina villages—from Cantalupo to Montopoli, from Poggio Mirteto to Montasola—spreading its model of widespread, participatory art. In 2025, ARTEr.i.e. celebrated its twentieth edition right here in Fara in Sabina, involving hundreds of artists. Since 2024, the event has been recognized as one of the cultural best practices by the Lazio Region.
Realized through the work of a hundred volunteers and the support of the Municipality of Fara in Sabina, ARTEr.i.e. is completely free to attend and committed to sustainability, using reusable cups and ceramic tableware. An evening at the festival is an invitation to get lost in the alleys of one of the most charming villages in Sabina, letting yourself be surprised at every corner by a new artistic language.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet published the official dates or the program for the 2026 edition of ARTEr.i.e. in Fara in Sabina. The annual festival traditionally takes place in September in the historic center of the village, featuring its themed trails dedicated to theater, music, dance, cinema, literature, and visual arts. This page will be updated as soon as the 2026 calendar is released.
Fara in Sabina can be reached by car via the Via Salaria (SS4) or the A1 motorway (Fiano Romano exit), about an hour from Rome. The Fara Sabina-Montelibretti train station, on the FL1 regional line, is a few kilometers from the historic center. During the event, a free shuttle service usually operates from the parking areas outside the center.
Admission is free. On festival evenings, food stands are available in Piazza Garibaldi, offering vegetarian options.
