About Stregando

Every year, between October 31st and November 2nd, the Castello Savelli Torlonia in Palombara Sabina transforms into the dark heart of the Roman Sabina region. Stregando is the Halloween festival organized by the Futuro Obiettivo cultural association: horror tunnels, children's workshops, guided tours within medieval walls, fortune-telling, crafts, street food, and craft beers bring three days of free-entry festivities to life, where the largest fortress in the Lazio region shares legends, apparitions, and ancient fears.

Halloween in the largest fortress in Lazio

There is a time of year when the Castello Savelli Torlonia ceases to be just a monument and becomes a story. It happens between October 31st and November 2nd, when Stregando lights torches, smoke, and flickering lights upon the walls of the fortress overlooking Palombara Sabina, in the heart of the Roman Sabina, in the province of Rome. The event is organized by the Futuro Obiettivo cultural association with the patronage of the Municipality of Palombara Sabina and has become a staple of the autumn calendar in the Lazio Region.

The "Oblio" horror tunnel

The highlight is the fear-inducing path set up within the castle rooms: a horror tunnel named Oblio, filled with intermittent lights, fog, gothic scenery, and ghostly presences that seem to emerge from the ancient stones. The organizers warn, with a touch of irony, that only the bravest make it to the end. It is an attraction designed for teenagers and adults, while a completely different, magical, and playful area is reserved for children.

A family-friendly castle

Stregando is not just about thrills. The halls and courtyards of the fortress host creative workshops for children, board games, costumes, potions, and themed activities, alongside a rich schedule of guided tours that lead visitors to discover the secrets and curiosities of the manor. The guides, often in costume, recount the history of the Savelli family, the hidden passages, and the legends that have been passed down in the town for centuries. The scariest mask contest is very popular, with an awards ceremony dedicated to children in the early afternoon/evening and a second one, late at night, reserved for adults.

Music, flavors, and crafts

  • Street food and food stalls in the castle courtyards
  • Craft beers and themed cocktails
  • 80s and 90s music, DJ sets, and live concerts
  • Dance shows, fire performances, and roaming acts
  • Craft stalls and typical products from the Sabina area
  • Fortune-telling and numerology, with booking recommended

Why it's worth the trip

Palombara Sabina is located just over forty kilometers from Rome, at the foot of the Lucretili Mountains, and its castle is considered the largest in Lazio. Seeing it come alive at night, with the village alleys illuminated and drums echoing between the walls, creates an atmosphere that no Halloween party in the city can offer. Stregando has the merit of combining the popular and lighthearted dimension of the holiday with a real opportunity for promoting historical heritage: many people enter the Castello Savelli for the first time during these three days.

When to go

The days follow a precise rhythm: on October 31st, it opens in the afternoon, while on November 1st and 2nd, the castle welcomes visitors from late morning, with activities continuing until night. Those traveling with children should arrive early, when the workshops are less crowded; those looking for a darker atmosphere should wait until nightfall, when the horror tunnel comes to life and the fortress is at its best.

Stregando — edition 2026

Stregando returns to the Castello Savelli Torlonia in Palombara Sabina from October 31st to November 2nd, 2026. Three days of free-entry festivities featuring horror tunnels, children's workshops, guided tours of the fortress, crafts, street food, and live music, set within the largest castle in the Lazio region.

The 2026 edition of Stregando is confirmed at the Castello Savelli Torlonia in Palombara Sabina for the usual Halloween and All Saints' long weekend, from October 31st to November 2nd. As every year, the organization is entrusted to the Futuro Obiettivo cultural association, with the patronage of the Municipality.

The format remains the one that has made the event successful: the Oblio fear-inducing path set up in the castle rooms, the area dedicated to children with creative workshops and themed games, guided tours within the medieval walls, the scariest mask contest, craft and local Sabina product stalls, street food, craft beers, and themed cocktails, with 80s and 90s music until late at night.

The detailed program with times, concerts, and shows is usually released by the organizers in the second half of October on the channels of the Municipality of Palombara Sabina and on the event's Instagram profile.
