Mountain choir festival in Canal San Bovo
Armonie nel Vanoi is the mountain choir festival that enlivens the parish church of Canal San Bovo every summer, located in the municipality of the same name in the Province of Trento, the green heart of the Vanoi Valley in Trentino-Alto Adige. Organized by the Coro Vanoi since 2012, the event aims to promote and celebrate mountain choral music by bringing groups with different styles, repertoires, and geographical origins to the valley.
At the heart of the initiative is the Coro Vanoi, a male-voice choir founded in 1989 by mountain singing enthusiasts from the valley's hamlets. Directed since 2001 by Maestro Paolo Scalet, the choir has been declared a "choir of national interest" by the Ministry of Culture and has brought Trentino choral music to prestigious stages over the years, from the 2015 Milan Expo to St. Peter's Square. With Armonie nel Vanoi, the choir opens the doors of its valley to other choral groups in a spirit of exchange and friendship.
The evening's repertoire focuses on popular and mountain songs: arrangements by composers such as Pigarelli, De Marzi, and the great masters of the Alpine choral tradition, as well as pieces linked to valley life, nature, and community memory. The intimate acoustics of the parish church and the atmosphere of summer evenings make every concert a deeply evocative experience, beloved by both residents and visitors vacationing in the Dolomites.
The festival is part of the rich summer calendar of events in the Vanoi Valley and the San Martino di Castrozza, Passo Rolle, Primiero, and Vanoi area, promoted by the local Tourist Board. Admission to the concerts is free, reflecting the popular and community-oriented nature of the event.
The dates for the 2026 edition are set for August: an unmissable opportunity for those spending the summer in Trentino who wish to experience the mountains through their most authentic voice—that of the choirs.
The thirteenth edition of Armonie nel Vanoi is set for August 1, 2026, in the parish church of Canal San Bovo, in the heart of the Vanoi Valley in Trentino. The festival is organized by the Coro Vanoi, a male-voice choir directed by Maestro Paolo Scalet and recognized as a "choir of national interest".
As every year, the evening will be dedicated to the popular and mountain song repertoire, with the Coro Vanoi joined by one or more guest choral groups. The detailed program and the invited choirs for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. Admission is free.
Canal San Bovo can be reached by car from Valsugana by traveling up the Vanoi Valley (SS50 to Imèr, then follow signs for Vanoi), or from Primiero. The parish church is located in the town center. By train, the nearest stations are Feltre or Borgo Valsugana, with connecting bus services.
Admission to the festival concerts is free. Concerts take place in the evening, generally at 8:30 PM. We recommend arriving early to secure a seat in the church.
