The Coro Genzianella Christmas Concert is one of the most cherished musical events of the holiday season in Tesero, a charming village in the Val di Fiemme, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Every year on St. Stephen's Day (December 26), the choir gathers the community in the evocative church of Sant'Eliseo for an evening dedicated to choral mountain music, featuring traditional songs and melodies from the Alpine culture.
The Coro Genzianella of Tesero was founded in 1950 by nine friends united by their passion for mountain singing. Over the decades, it has become one of the longest-running male choirs in Trentino, with a popular and Alpine repertoire ranging from traditional folk songs to modern compositions. Today, the group consists of about twenty singers and is led by maestro Diego Cavada, who has been the conductor since 2014.
The choir's long history extends well beyond the valley: over the years, the Genzianella has performed in numerous Italian regions and abroad, bringing its voice to Spain, Belgium, Germany, Romania, and Scotland. The choir is also a founding member of the Trentino Choir Federation and celebrated its seventieth anniversary in 2020.
The Christmas concert is an intimate, communal moment that blends the spiritual essence of Christmas with the warmth of Trentino's choral tradition. Within the walls of the parish church, the choir's voices guide the audience through mountain songs, Christmas carols, and traditional folk melodies, in a free-entry evening designed as a gift to the Tesero community and the many visitors in the valley during the holidays.
Located at an altitude of about 900 meters, Tesero is also famous for its nativity scene tradition, which brings streets, courtyards, and corners of the village to life during Advent. The Coro Genzianella Christmas Concert is part of a rich calendar of holiday events that make the Val di Fiemme one of the most enchanting destinations in Trentino during the festive season, with its snow-capped mountains, village charm, and ancient traditions.
The traditional Coro Genzianella Christmas Concert will return in 2026 at the church of Sant'Eliseo in Tesero, Val di Fiemme. As of the time of writing, official information for the 2026 edition has not yet been published: the confirmed date and the program of songs will be released by the choir through its official channels. As per tradition, the evening will feature mountain songs and Alpine Christmas carols, with free entry.
