Grand opera and operetta in San Miniato, blending theatre and music
Armonie di parole e note is a series of events dedicated to theatre and great music, promoted by the Municipality of San Miniato in the heart of the Pisa province, with the support of the Regional Council of Tuscany. The artistic direction is entrusted to Alessandro Licostini, who has curated a programme designed to showcase the great Italian and European musical tradition and bring it to a wider audience.
The festival took its first steps in 2025, and following the success of its inaugural season, it returned in 2026 with two new evenings. The core concept remains the same: to offer quality concerts and shows in evocative locations throughout the municipality, from the village of Ponte a Egola to the historic centre of San Miniato, while maintaining free admission to encourage maximum participation.
The programme alternates between two complementary styles. On one hand, grand opera, with galas featuring the most famous arias from the Italian and European operatic repertoire, performed by singers accompanied by piano. On the other, operetta, a brilliant and engaging genre that combines singing, light-heartedness, and theatricality, supported by instrumental ensembles.
The evenings take place in two distinct locations within the municipality. The Casa Concia in Ponte a Egola, restored as a cultural space in the leather-working district, and the San Martino Auditorium in San Miniato, located in the hilltop village dominated by the Frederick II Fortress. These two settings reflect the dual identity of the city, blending artisanal tradition with historical heritage.
Part of the rich cultural calendar of San Miniato—a city also known for its White Truffle Market and its theatre seasons—the Armonie di parole e note festival helps establish the municipality as a reference point for classical music in this part of Tuscany, between Pisa, Florence, and the Empolese-Valdelsa area.
The second season of Armonie di parole e note confirmed the winning formula of the San Miniato festival: two evenings dedicated to great music, with free admission, under the artistic direction of Alessandro Licostini and with the support of the Regional Council of Tuscany.
The first appointment brought grand opera to the Casa Concia in Ponte a Egola; the second filled the San Martino Auditorium with the brilliant spectacle of operetta. An edition designed to bring the public of the Pisa and Tuscany region closer to the operatic and operetta repertoire.
