The signature pastry of Capaci takes center stage for an evening of flavor and tradition
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of summer, the streets of Capaci — a town overlooking the Gulf of Carini in the Metropolitan City of Palermo — come alive for the Arasimieddi Festival, a popular celebration dedicated to one of the most beloved local treats. It is a simple, genuine event that captures the soul of a Sicilian town through its authentic flavors.
The arasimieddu is a small pastry typical of Capaci, prepared according to a recipe handed down through local families. The base is made of shortcrust pastry, filled with candied citron and covered in a signature vibrant sugar glaze that makes it instantly recognizable. It is a perfect treat to enjoy while strolling, combining the sweetness of the pastry with the citrusy aroma of the citron: a small masterpiece of Sicilian home baking.
The festival takes place outdoors along Via Sommariva, at the corner of Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, on a late August evening. Stalls and tasting points offer freshly made arasimieddi, while the neighborhood fills with people, conversation, and a festive village atmosphere. It is an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to discover or rediscover a pastry that is part of the Capaci identity.
The event is part of the summer calendar of Capaci, which every year features festivals and celebrations dedicated to local products — from the famous autumn Vastedda Festival to various gastronomic events throughout the summer. The Arasimieddi Festival is a key moment for showcasing local culinary culture, where the community gathers around an ancient flavor.
For those visiting the province of Palermo during the summer months, the Arasimieddi Festival offers a small but authentic taste of the most genuine Sicily, where family recipes become a celebration for everyone.
The 2026 Arasimieddi Festival does not yet have an official date. The event, dedicated to the typical Capaci pastry made of shortcrust, candied citron, and colorful glaze, is usually held in the second half of August on Via Sommariva, as part of the Municipality of Capaci's summer program. We recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality and the Pro Loco of Capaci for the date, times, and program of the 2026 edition as soon as they are announced.
Via Sommariva, corner of Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, Capaci (PA). The event takes place outdoors in the heart of the town center.
Capaci is located about 20 km from Palermo, on the Gulf of Carini. By car, it can be reached via the A29 motorway (Palermo–Mazara del Vallo), taking the Capaci exit. By train, the Capaci station is served by the Palermo–Trapani regional line; the town is just a few kilometers from the Palermo–Punta Raisi (Falcone-Borsellino) airport.
Admission to the festival is free; pastry tastings are available for purchase at the stalls. The evening begins in the late afternoon (around 6:30 PM) and continues into the night.
As this is a local village festival, it is advisable to arrive early to find parking in the surrounding streets. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: we recommend checking the summer event calendar of the Municipality of Capaci in the weeks leading up to the event.
