The San Calogero Patronal Feast is the most important religious and civic event of the year for the municipality of Torretta, a small hillside village in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily. San Calogero, a hermit venerated throughout the island, is the town's patron saint: the community dedicates an entire week of celebrations to him, traditionally held in the last ten days of July and culminating on July 27th and 28th with the procession of the statue through the streets of the historic center.
The religious heart of the feast is the solemn procession of the statue of San Calogero, accompanied by a brass band and the participation of the faithful, winding through the town streets amidst prayers and moments of intense devotion. Alongside the spiritual dimension, the feast preserves the most ancient rites of Sicilian popular tradition, such as the characteristic horse parade and traditional games that enliven the town center.
On the evenings of the festivities, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele transforms into the town's living room: food festivals offer the typical flavors of the region, from fresh fried fish to traditional pasta dishes, in an atmosphere of shared celebration. The entertainment program, strongly promoted by the municipal administration in recent years, has brought prominent names in Italian music and comedy to Torretta, with concerts, cabaret nights, and shows for all ages. A grand fireworks display, launched from the Francesco Di Maggio belvedere, closes the festivities.
Organized by the Municipality of Torretta in collaboration with local associations, the San Calogero Feast is designed to involve all generations: days dedicated to children with inflatables and entertainment, shows for young people, and traditional events for families. It is the occasion when the town reunites, welcoming back the many emigrants who return for the summer, and strengthens its cultural and religious identity in the heart of the Palermo hinterland.
The 2026 edition of the San Calogero Patronal Feast in Torretta will feature the usual week of religious and civil celebrations in honor of the town's patron saint, in the Metropolitan City of Palermo. Following the tradition of recent years, the solemn procession of the statue, the horse parade, food festivals in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, activities for children and families, and the final fireworks display are expected.
The official dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published: the calendar is generally released by the Municipality of Torretta and the organizing associations in the weeks leading up to the festivities, which are traditionally held in the last week of July.
Torretta can be reached by car from Palermo (about 20 km) via the SS113 and the provincial road that climbs toward the hillside village. The nearest airport is Palermo-Punta Raisi (Falcone-Borsellino), about 15 km away.
The festivities traditionally take place in the last week of July, with the procession and fireworks on the final days.
Events in the square and the procession are free and open to everyone.
