The summer film arena in the green heart of Palermo
The Open-Air Cinema at Parco Villa Filippina is one of the most beloved events of the Palermo summer. Within the historic greenery of Piazza San Francesco di Paola, just a short walk from the center of the Sicilian capital, the ancient park transforms for two months into a grand open-air cinema arena, where the big screen lights up summer evenings under the sky of Palermo.
Promoted by Terzo Millennio Progetti Artistici, the festival brings a rich and varied program to the park, designed for a wide audience: families, art-house cinema enthusiasts, young people, and curious visitors looking for a fresh, cultural alternative to the hot August nights.
The lineup alternates between art-house cinema and blockbuster comedies, showcasing Italian and European titles awarded at major festivals alongside high-profile international films. Recent editions have featured works by directors such as Paolo Sorrentino, Ferzan Özpetek, and Paolo Genovese, alongside films that have won or been nominated for prestigious cinema awards.
The Villa Filippina experience goes beyond the screen. From Friday to Sunday, starting at 7:00 PM, the park's lounge area offers dedicated packages: the AperiCinema combines the film with a full aperitif, while the CenaCinema allows you to dine in the greenery before the show. A convivial solution that blends gastronomy, relaxation, and the big screen into a single evening.
With its affordable prices and location in the city's green space, the Open-Air Cinema at Parco Villa Filippina stands as one of the most democratic summer cultural events in the Sicily Region. The festival confirms the park's role as a gathering place and entertainment hub for locals and tourists alike who, during the hottest months, seek leisure under the stars.
The 2026 edition confirms the festival's winning formula: nightly screenings at 9:00 PM at Parco Villa Filippina in Palermo, from July 21 to August 31. The program, which can be viewed and booked online, alternates between art-house cinema and major blockbuster comedies, with Italian and European titles already announced such as La Grazia, Tre Ciotole, Cinque Secondi, Duse, La Gioia, and La Vita Va Così.
Popular prices remain confirmed: 3.50 euros for Italian and European films participating in the Cinema Revolution campaign, and 6.50 euros for other titles. From Friday to Sunday, starting at 7:00 PM, the AperiCinema (12 euros) and CenaCinema (15 euros) packages return to the park's lounge area.
