A popular dinner to remember July 25, 1943, in Massa Lombarda
The Antifascist Pasta of Massa Lombarda, in the province of Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna), is one of the most heartfelt civic events of the town's summer. Promoted by the local section of the ANPI of Massa Lombarda and Sant'Agata sul Santerno, it takes place every year on the evening of July 25th at the Festa Area in Via Rabin, bringing citizens, families, and sympathizers together around a large shared plate of pasta.
The date is not accidental: July 25, 1943, marked Mussolini's arrest and the beginning of the fall of the fascist regime. The tradition of pasta originated in Emilia, when the Cervi family from Campegine (Reggio Emilia) celebrated the news by offering a plate of pasta to the entire community. From that gesture, a commemoration was born that today is renewed in hundreds of Italian squares, and in Massa Lombarda takes the form of a simple and participatory town festival.
The event combines the convivial moment of dinner with a program of readings, speeches, and live music. After dinner, the Festa Area comes alive with musical entertainment, in an informal atmosphere that blends historical memory with the desire to be together. It is an opportunity to reflect on the values of the Resistance and the Constitution, but also to reconnect with fellow citizens on one of the warmest evenings of the Romagna summer.
The Antifascist Pasta is part of Massa Lombarda's rich summer calendar, which from June to September offers music, cinema, festivals, and popular traditions for all ages.
In 2026, the Antifascist Pasta returns to Massa Lombarda on July 25th, from 8:00 PM at the Festa Area in Via Rabin. The initiative is part of the Municipality's summer program and is organized by the ANPI section of Massa Lombarda and Sant'Agata sul Santerno.
