Theatre, dance, and music in the heart of the Tuscan Valtiberina
The Teatro di Anghiari is one of the most vibrant cultural hubs in the Tuscan Valtiberina, located in the heart of one of Italy's most beautiful villages in the Province of Arezzo. Managed by the Compagnia dei Ricomposti, it hosts its Theatre Season every spring, a meticulously curated program that alternates between prose theatre, contemporary dance, music, and storytelling. It is more than just a venue for shows: each edition is built around a specific theme, chosen by artistic director Andrea Merendelli, which gives coherence and identity to the entire journey.
The strength of the Anghiari season lies in its ability to balance different registers. Alongside established performers of the national scene, there is space for emerging companies, young talents from theatre workshops, and contemporary dance productions. The audience can thus transition, within a few weeks, from a poetic spoken-word performance to a jazz concert, from a musical tale to an evening of dance, always with the same attention to detail in the choice of titles.
The theatre never loses its bond with the local area: the village of Anghiari, famous for the historic Battle also chronicled by Leonardo da Vinci, often returns as a source of inspiration for the shows produced by the local company.
Performances take place in the Teatro di Anghiari hall on Via Bozia, just a short walk from the charming Piazza IV Novembre. It is a cozy, intimate space that fosters a direct connection between actors and spectators, perfect for the high-quality programming that characterizes the season. The small size of the hall makes every evening a close-up experience, far from the anonymity of large theatres.
For those visiting Tuscany off the beaten path, the Anghiari Theatre Season is an opportunity to discover authentic theatre, rooted in its territory but open to the most interesting voices of the contemporary scene, in the heart of the Province of Arezzo.
The SEDUT! 2026 season spanned two months of quality programming in the Via Bozia hall in Anghiari, in the Province of Arezzo. The title, chosen by artistic director Andrea Merendelli, played on the act of sitting in the theatre as an act of listening and rediscovering emotions. Eight events alternated between contemporary dance, prose theatre, jazz, musical storytelling, and an evening dedicated to cinema, with a program capable of uniting great Italian performers and young talents from theatre workshops.
